Spas support young women affected by breast cancer

During the month of October, select spas in Virginia, D.C. and Maryland will donate a portion of each massage to Tigerlily Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports young women with breast cancer.

Each participating spa has committed to raising $2500 to $5000 for “Spa for a Cause.” Spas include Catherine’s Skin Care and Day Spa, Christol Salon and Spa, Ibiza Day Spa and Paris Alexander Day Spa.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in American women ages 15 to 54, according to the National Cancer Institute. More than 250,000 U.S. women age 40 and younger will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lives.

Tigerlily Foundation supports young women through education, a chemotherapy buddy program, a buddy bag program, financial assistance, meals, and emotional support. It also works to raise awareness about breast cancer in young women. Breast cancer in young women is frequently more aggressive, with a higher mortality rate.

Founder Maimah Karmo was diagnosed with breast cancer at 32. As a survivor, she created the Tigerlily Foundation in 2006. She has appeared on the “Oprah Winfrey Show.”

Hi
The emotional hole left in us from neglectful/emotionally distant parents. Did you go on to recreate your own family to fill the hole? Or do you do little things for yourself everyday to acheive emotional wholeness?
