Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney announced Thursday that Loudoun Del. Barbara Comstock (R-34th) has joined the ranks of his Virginia campaign.
Comstock is one of seven co-chairs on the committee, which also includes Loudoun Del. Thomas “Tag” Greason (R-32nd).
Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling is the Virginia campaign chairman.
“The team Mitt Romney has assembled in Virginia has been working hard to spread his pro-growth message, reaching out to voters and laying the groundwork for victory in November. These additional members of our team will strengthen our efforts in the state. Virginians expect our next president to reverse the failed policies of Barack Obama and enact policies that will get our economy growing again. Mitt Romney has demonstrated throughout this campaign that he understands how the real economy works, and he has put forth a detailed plan to create jobs. That’s the kind of leadership our nation desperately needs, and we are proud to support him,” Bolling said in a statement.
Romney is one of two candidates, the other being hopeful Ron Paul, that will appear on Virginia’s Republican primary ballot in March.
Romney and Paul each submitted petitions with 10,000 signatures of registered voters. While a petition from Rick Perry was received by the state Republican Party, a standard review showed that he didn’t submit the necessary number of signatures. Newt Gingrich also failed to provide the signatures required to be on the ballot.
Perry has since filed suit against Virginia in federal court, arguing the law is unconstitutional.
Petitions were not received from candidates Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman or Rick Santorum.
Petitioners are required to be Virginia voters and the petitions must include 400 signatures from each of Virginia’s 11 Congressional districts.
The Virginia presidential primary is scheduled for March 6.
The Republican presidential nominee will be officially decided at the Republican National Convention Aug. 27-30.
The Virginia State Convention will be held in Richmond June 16 to elect Virginia’s 13 delegates to the national convention. A state chairman for the GOP will also be elected.
Sure Dixie, What we need is a guy who gets married and divorced more often than I change my panty hose. What a great conservative with great family values. He thinks a married status fools those of us who pay attention. What he has is a tax deduction not a commitment that provides community stability.
The funniest thing is watching Romney try and explain how the health care plan he passed in Massachusetts is different from Obama’s plan. They are basically the same idea, hatched in the 80s by the conservatives.
Heck Newt Gingrich even supported the idea during the “Hillarycare” debate.
These guys would shoot their own family if that is what the Christian Conservatives wanted to see.
romney flips more than a flapjack
For at least 4 years, the GOP had the opportunity to gather a group that would bring competition to the idiot running the show now. If the morons on the stage are what we have to pick from, we are in trouble. I can’t believe that we have basically gave up until 2016 to fight for a savior. I certainly hope we do a better job of having someone that will save this country from what we heading into. Better learn to speak Chinese.
Romney Sucks. That guy is a liberal and is only telling suckers what they want to hear just to get into the white house. Ron Paul, Newt, anybody but Romney.
