York to chair regional Transportation Planning Board
Loudoun Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott York (R-At Large) has been elected to chair the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) in 2013.
The TPB, which prepares transportation plans and programs in hopes of securing federal transportation funds for those projects, includes representatives from Metropolitan Washington’s local governments, state transportation agencies, the Maryland and Virginia General Assemblies, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, and non-voting members from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and federal agencies.
York has served as the vice chair for 2012.
“I look forward to the opportunity to lead the TPB, which plays a significant role as the regional forum for transportation planning,” York said in a prepared statement. “The TPB prepares plans and programs that facilitate the flow of federal transportation funds to the Washington region.”
York’s chairmanship will start in January. Tommy Wells, a representative of the District of Columbia, will serve as the first vice chair.
York also serves the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) and the Northern Virginia Regional Commission.
Earlier this month, Supervisor Matt Letourneau (R-Dulles) was named vice president of the Metropolitan Washington COG.
