A coveted spot in the Babe Ruth 14-Year-Olds World Series will be on the line starting Aug. 2 when Greater Loudoun Babe Ruth hosts the Southeast Regional Baseball Tournament at Fireman’s Field in Purcellville.
The double-elimination style tournament will feature 12 teams from seven states vying for a spot in the World Series. The Commonwealth of Virginia will be represented by three teams, highlighted locally by the Greater Loudoun Babe Ruth host team.
Greater Loudoun will be managed by Tim Owen, with Glenn Graves and Pete Chipouras serving as assistant coaches. The host team’s player roster will consist mainly of 14-year-olds, along with a couple of 13-year-olds.
Greater Loudoun will open tournament play Aug. 2 at 8 p.m. against Greenville (N.C.) Babe Ruth. Overall, four games are scheduled each day Aug. 2 through Aug. 6 with the loser’s bracket championship game and the tournament championship game or games set for Aug. 7 and 8.
The Southeast Regional Tournament champion will earn one of 10 spots in the Babe Ruth 14-Year-Olds World Series, scheduled for Aug. 18-25 in Murray, Utah.
