Broad Run High School celebrated National Signing Day on Feb. 1 by honoring four senior football players heading to the college ranks. Spartan coach Matt Griffis, along with family, friends and staff, watched proudly as the student-athletes were honored.
Senior linebacker Caleb Lindsay, the Cedar Run Defensive Player of the Year, will play at Division I Virginia Military Institute.
Cedar Run Offensive Player of the Year Connor Jessop, a quarterback, accepted preferred walk-on status from Virginia Tech. Jessop was a three-year starter who led Broad Run to a state title his sophomore year. Jessop passed for nearly 2,000 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior.
All-District lineman Jackson Matteo heads to the University of Virginia with preferred walk-on status. Matteo originally verbally committed to Temple University, before decommitting last month.
Running back Derril Thomas signed with Division II Concord University in West Virginia. Thomas was an All-District running back in 2011. He rushed for 2,000 yards and 40 touchdowns in his career.
