    A pair of Freedom, Broad Run wrestlers advance to states

    Freedom and Broad Run high schools qualified two wrestlers for the Virginia AAA state wrestling tournament following top four finishes at the Northwest Region tournament.

    Freedom's Andy Hinrichs (145) and Brendan Kammerdiener (195) advanced to the finals at regionals and came away with runner-up finishes.

    Broad Run will also send two wrestlers to the state tournament. Tarkan Martin placed third in the region tournament at 138 pounds and Timmy Brown finished fourth at 106 pounds.

    The Virginia AAA state tournament is Feb. 15 at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake.

    Here is a list of the local wrestlers that placed among the top four in their weight class.

    AAA Northwest Region
    106: 4. Timmy Brown (BR)
    138: 3. Tarkan Martin (BR)
    145: 2. Andy Hinrichs (FRE)
    195: 2. Brendan Kammerdiener (FRE)
