All-State volleyball teams feature local players, coach

Jim Clark of Freedom High School has been selected as the Virginia AAA Coach of the Year after guiding the Eagles to their best season in program history. Freedom won Cedar Run District season and tournament titles, as well as the Northwest Region championship in 2011.

Freedom seniors Kaitlyn Lamantia and Jasmine Jackson received first team All-State accolades. Teammate Andrea Phung, a junior, was an honorable mention.

Stone Bridge junior Ryan Ackermann, the Northern Region Player of the Year, also earned first team honors. Mallory Brickerd of Broad Run was selected to the second team, while Stone Bridge’s Sarah Fairchild was an honorable mention.

Dulles District and Region II champion Loudoun County placed three players on the Virginia AA volleyball team. Seniors Gabby Serafin and Jenna Strange gained first-team honors, and senior Katrina Kirby was selected on the second team.

Heritage senior Stephanie Yokoyama also earned first team All-State recognition.
