The APEX Level 6 gymnastics team placed fourth in the state competition, held March 26-27 in Virginia Beach. A pair of APEX gymnasts won individual state titles on the vault—Julia Ames in level 6 and Alex Donahue in level 7.

APEX, based in Leesburg, placed several of its gymnasts on individual events and in the all-around. Top placements are listed below.

Villavicencio seventh in all-around

APEX gymnast Caitlin Villavicencio finished seventh in the all-around competition at Level 8 Regionals in Seaford, N.J.

Villavicencio represented the Virginia state team and helped them to a first-place tie in the team standings with New Jersey.

Also representing APEX was Cassidy Gagnon, Amy Eck and Courtney Walker. Gagnon also had top finishes on bars (9th) and beam (6th).

APEX boys show strong at regionals

The APEX boys optional team had a great showing at the Region 7 Championships, April 2-3 in Maryland. APEX qualified three boys - Aaron Meland (level 10), Alex Shamenko (level 10) and Chester deWolfe (level 9) - to the national championships.

All three gymnasts will travel to Long Beach, Calif. during the first week of May to compete for a national title. Placement finishes are listed below.
