Briar Woods linebacker Rolin changes college destination
Coveted recruit Matt Rolin has decommitted from the University of South Carolina and will now play football for the University of Florida.
Rolin, a senior at Briar Woods High School in Ashburn, announced his plans Dec. 9 via Twitter.
“Going back on my word is something I never imagined myself doing and it hurts me to do it, but in the end I have to do what’s best for me,” he wrote. “I have officially committed to [the] University of Florida. I will be wearing [No. 9] as I continue to chase my dreams at Florida.”
Rolin committed in May to attend South Carolina, his parents alma mater. He reopened his recruitment and took an official visit to Florida in November.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound linebacker is a four-star recruit and a 2013 Under Armour All-American Game selection.
Rolin, the 2012 Dulles District Defensive Player of the Year, missed most of the postseason with an ACL injury. He announced his decision one day after Briar Woods won its third consecutive state championship.
