Broad Run High School alum Stephanie Garcia has earned a spot in the final of the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at the United States Track and Field Olympic Trials in Oregon.
Garcia (9:48.17) finished fourth in her heat and was seventh fastest overall June 25 in the preliminary round. The top five in each of two preliminary heats, along with the four best remaining times, qualified for the final.
The 3,000 steeplechase final is set for June 29 at 7:45 p.m. The event will be televised by NBC Sports Network.
Garcia won Atlantic Coast Conference titles in the 3,000 steeplechase in 2008 and 2011 at the University of Virginia. She placed fourth at the 2011 USATF Championships and competed for the United States in the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Daegu, Korea.
