Broad Run High School’s competitive cheer squad claimed the AAA Cedar Run District championship with a deduction-free performance Oct. 17 at Osbourn High School in Manassas.

The Spartans scored 239 points on their routine to edge runner-up Patriot by 9.5 points for the title. Taylor Hoover, Elisabeth Rebholz, Ashley Diloreta and Shannon Costello are Broad Run’s captains and the program is guided by Emily Ruths.

“It was an amazing night, I was so incredibly proud of the girls,” said Broad Run assistant coach Amy Sergi, noting that the highlight of the Spartans’ routine was their standing and running tumbling.

“They went out and nailed their routine,” Sergi continued. “I told them to leave it all on the mat and to have no regrets and that’s just what they did.”

Freedom placed third with 226.5 points, followed by Battlefield, Osbourn and Stonewall Jackson.

Broad Run, Patriot, Freedom and Battlefield each qualified for the AAA Northwest Region meet, scheduled for Nov. 3 at William Fleming High School in Roanoke.
