Andi Mack |
Stone Bridge High School freshman Andi Mack made quite an impression in her first varsity state swimming meet Feb. 17-18 at George Mason University in Fairfax.
Mack led the Bulldogs to a tied for 23rd place finish in the team standings at the Virginia AAA Swim Championships with a pair of top five individual finishes.
Mack swam to state runner-up honors in the 200-yard freestyle. Her time of 1:52.45 was less than a second behind event champion Audrey Kula (1:52.31) of Osbourn Park. Mack also placed fourth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.38.
Broad Run swimmers reached the ‘A’ final in two events to help the Spartans place 20th in the boys standings.
Senior Jacob Leidy finished eighth in the 100 butterfly, completing the event in 52.43 seconds. Leidy also joined forces with teammates Michael Kopecky, Jack Morrisroe and Alan Horback to record a seventh-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.66).
Andi Mack’s determation and drive will put her in a class by herself . No swim times or records are beyond her reach…..and she is just a freshman.
