A scoring success
Ashton Marshall, a 2010 graduate of the Foxcroft School, took little time to adjust to the pace of college lacrosse in her freshman season at Christopher Newport. Marshall, Foxcroft’s all-time leading goal scorer, was recently selected to the All-USA South Athletic Conference first team.
Playing attack, Marshall scored 49 goals , good for second on the team. The Round Hill native connected on more than 57 percent of her shots. She also added seven assists.
Her strong play guided the Captains to a sixth straight conference championship, and helped the team advance to the NCAA Division III tournament.
Third offer for Burns
Just a week after receiving a football scholarship offer from the University of Virginia, Stone Bridge High School rising junior Ryan Burns has collected another offer – this time from Stanford University.
Burns, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound pro-style quarterback, now holds offers from Stanford, Virginia and Boston College. Burns is one of the top quarterback recruits in the Class of 2013.
A wise catcher
Broad Run High School graduate Tommy Meier enjoyed a strong sophomore campaign as the starting catcher for the University of Virginia’s College at Wise baseball team in 2011.
Meier started 36 games this spring and was tied for the team lead with 42 hits and second in batting average at .347. Meier was also second for UVa-Wise with 21 runs scored.
UVa-Wise (17-22) won the Mid-South Conference Eastern Division title for the first time in 2011.
Harris goes west
Meredith “Dish” Harris, a former Foxcroft School lacrosse standout, competed in 11 of 16 games in her freshman season at the University of Denver. Playing midfield, Harris scored four goals and had three assists on the season.
The University of Denver competes in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, a Division 1 conference made up seven teams.
While at Foxcroft, Harris was a two-time all-conference selection, and the Foxes’ Most Valuable Player in her senior season.
