Panthers’ Graves to hoop at Mount St. Mary’s
Potomac Falls High School hosted a signing ceremony Nov. 30 for senior student-athlete Greg Graves. Graves, a 6-foot-7 post player, signed his letter of intent to play basketball at Division I Mount St. Mary’s in Emmitsburg, Md. Graves is seated next to his parents Cynthia Graves Polk and Leonard Polk. Standing, from left, are Mount St. Mary’s assistant coach Matt Henry and Potomac Falls head basketball coach Jeff Hawes. Graves played a key role in Potomac Falls winning consecutive Virginia AA state championships the last two years. Briar Woods’ Jones makes Penn State commitment official
Briar Woods High School celebrated senior softball standout Macy Jones signing her letter of intent to Penn State University Nov. 15. Jones, joined by her parents Mark and Michele, verbally committed to Penn State as a sophomore. She was a captain and key member on the Falcons’ 2011 state championship team. Jones was selected as the Virginia AA Player of the Year and the Loudoun Times Mirror Female Athlete of the Year as a junior. Three Raiders to play college volleyball
Loudoun County High School celebrated the signing of three volleyball players to national letters of intent Nov. 15. Sitting, from left, are Katrina Kirby (Queens University), Jenna Strange (College of William and Mary) and Gabby Serafin (Georgia State University). The players are joined by Loudoun County volleyball coaches Jarod Brown and Jenica Matthias. Kirby was a two-year varsity starter, earning All-Region II honors this fall. Samantha Thomas received a softball scholarship at St. Francis University, a Division I program in Loretto, Pa. Thomas has been a varsity starter each of her first three seasons for Park View, coached by Ed Abner. Thomas earned first team All-Dulles District honors each of the last two seasons. Ryan McCarter received a football scholarship at Liberty University, a Division I program in Lynchburg. He will play receiver for Liberty, a member of the Big South Conference. McCarter set Park View records for touchdowns receptions (13) in a season as a junior and for receiving yards (229) in a single game as a senior. McCarter has earned first team All-Dulles District honors each of the last two years. McCarter is also a basketball standout, already surpassing 1,000 points in his varsity career.—Courtesy Photo

Stone Bridge’s Sleece signs with Louisville
Stone Bridge High School hosted a signing ceremony for senior Kalya Sleece in the school library Nov. 22. Sleece signed her letter of intent to play lacrosse at the University of Louisville. Sleece set a Bulldog record with 72 goals scored in 2011. She also holds program records for ground balls, assists in a game and forced turnovers.
