Senior Garrett Robinson’s 10-yard touchdown run in overtime capped Dominion High School’s magical comeback as the Titans rallied from a 21-point deficit to defeat host Heritage, 34-28, Sept. 7 in Leesburg. The thrilling victory was Dominion’s first win since late in the 2010 season.
Trailing 21-0 in the third quarter, the Titans outscored the Pride 28-7 through the remainder of regulation to force overtime. Robinson finished with 218 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries.
Dominion, a playoff team in 2010, were held without a victory in 2011. The Titans (1-0 in the Dulles District, 1-1 overall) knocked on the door in a narrow 17-10 season-opening loss to Handley before breaking it down versus Heritage.
Senior Matt Valenzuela also had a big game for Dominion. Valenzuela caught eight passes for 111 yards and a touchdown, as well as rushing for two more scores. Junior QB Donnie Gasser completed 18 of 35 passes in the win for 199 yards.
Heritage (0-1, 1-2) was led offensively by sophomore QB Michael Galvan. The first-year starter passed for 165 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for 73 yards and another score.
