    Foxcroft’s field hockey, tennis teams advance to state semifinals

    A pair of Foxcroft School athletic teams won Virginia Independent School Athletic Association Division II quarterfinal round games Nov. 6 in Middleburg. Foxcroft defeated Williamsburg Christian, 3-0, in field hockey, and topped Norfolk Christian, 7-1, in tennis.

    Freshman Alex Grace (Purcellville) scored a goal and assisted on another tally in the second half as No. 2 seed Foxcroft turned a 1-0 halftime lead into a 3-0 field hockey victory against No. 7 seed Williamsburg Christian.

    Lilly MacDonald (Bluemont) and Catherine Reynolds (Middleburg) netted a goal each for Foxcroft. Olivia Jane Johnson (Rectortown) added an assist and Alicia Holz (Delaplane) made three saves in goal.

    Foxcroft will face Hampton Roads Academy in the VISAA semifinals Nov. 9 at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach. The state championship game is Nov. 10.

    In tennis, No. 3 seed Foxcroft won five of six singles matches on its way to a 7-1 win against No. 6 seed Norfolk Christian.

    Senior captain Mary Marshall Pierce (Middleburg), junior Kelly Buckland (Alexandria), freshman Annie Mickum (The Plains), freshman Marina Shallcross (Upperville) and freshman Linda Yang (China) each won their singles matches in the quarterfinal victory.

    Foxcroft’s tennis team will play in the VISAA semifinals Nov. 9.
