Freedom High School’s boys tennis team advanced to the Virginia AAA State semifinals following a 5-0 home victory against Frank W. Cox High School in the quarterfinal round May 29 in South Riding.
The Eagles - Cedar Run District and Northwest Region champions this season - improved to 22-0 with Tuesday’s win. Wesley Wong, Alex Cragg, Brian Park, Varun Kulkarni and David Choi each won their singles matches in straight sets for the Eagles.
Freedom - coached by John Bell - will play Central Region champion Deep Run in the state semifinals June 1 at Huntington Park in Newport News. Match is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Deep Run defeated Robinson, 5-0, in the state quarterfinals.
The state championship match is set for June 2, 9 a.m. also at Huntington Park.
