A team made up of coaches will square off against a joint military team in the second annual Charity Hockey Classic. The exhibition game is Sept. 11 from 4-7 p.m. at Kettler Capitals IcePlex in Arlington. It will benefit Inova Blood Donor Services.
Comprising coaches from several youth hockey clubs including the Ashburn Xtreme, the Virginia Coaching Cardinals will face the National Capital Region Eagles, a team consisting of players from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Marines.
Last year’s inaugural event saw coaches from the Ashburn Xtreme defeat their counterparts from the Reston Raiders by a score of 7-1. The event raised more than $40,000 for a new Inova bloodmobile.
The bar has been raised this year with each player from the respective teams challenged to generate $1,000 to help secure their spot on the team.
