Layups for Loudoun is a slam dunk

The second annual Layups for Loudoun event to benefit Loudoun County Special Olympics drew approximately 500 spectators to Broad Run High School, Nov. 17 in Ashburn.

The event featured alumni basketball players from area high schools. A pair of first-round games were followed by a championship game. A team consisting of alumni players from Stone Bridge and Broad Run defeated a team of Loudoun Valley and Loudoun County alumni in the championship.

A game pitting Special Olympics athletes against their coaches was contested at halftime. The athletes team drained a jumper in the final seconds to defeat the coaches by one point.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Special Olympics Loudoun Area 14. Special Olympics in Loudoun serves more than 280 athletes in the area. To learn more, visit http://www.loudounspecialolympics.org .
