Leesburg resident has basketball court named after him

John Barrett, a Leesburg resident, was recently honored for his long and successful tenure as varsity basketball coach at Springbrook High School (Md.). The basketball court at Springbrook is now named John Barrett Court following a dedication ceremony Feb. 4.

Barrett coached Springbrook from 1970 through 1992 and guided the team to Maryland 4A state titles in 1972 and 1988. His teams produced a record of 365-155, advancing to the state semifinals or beyond eight times during his tenure.

Barrett has assisted Potomac Falls High School boys basketball coach Jeff Hawes as a volunteer scout during the last nine years.
