Fresh off winning team titles at the AA Dulles District meet, the Potomac Falls Panthers boys and the Dominion Titans girls each collected runner-up finishes at the Region II Swim Championships Feb. 8-9 at Fork Union Military Academy.

Western Albemarle swept team honors, topping Potomac Falls by 17 points for the boys' crown and besting Dominion by 76 points for the girls' title. Western Albemarle scored 144 points in the girls competition, more than double the total of any other team.

Heritage placed third in the girls' standings, followed by Briar Woods in fourth place. Tuscarora garnered a fifth-place finish on the boys side.

William Lin of Potomac Falls continued his stellar season. Lin swam to individual titles in both the 200-meter freestyle and the 400 freestyle. He also swam a leg on two Panther relay teams that placed second.

Joaquin Gabriel, a freshman at first-year John Champe, struck gold in the 100 breaststroke. Phillip Crouch, Jake Schroth, Daniel McAllister and Tim Burris of Heritage teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay.

Three area swimmers won individual titles in the girls' events. Lizzie Mittan of Briar Woods led the pack in the 400 freestyle, and Heritage swimmers Carrie Lee (100 backstroke) and Kayleigh Rosenburg (100 breaststroke) also claimed gold.

The Virginia AA Swim Championships are set for Feb. 15-16 at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
