Stevenson University’s men’s lacrosse team will feature more Loudoun flavor next season with the commitments of Woodgrove senior Denis Radcliffe and Dominion senior Troy Farmer.
Stevenson’s current roster includes Loudoun Valley graduate Dylan Zook, a sophomore attacker. Stevenson, in Owings Mills, Md., reached the NCAA Division III quarterfinal round last spring and is ranked seventh nationally in the USILA Division III Preseason Poll, released Feb. 13.
Radcliffe, a midfielder, is entering his second season at Woodgrove after spending his first two years at Loudoun Valley. Radcliffe and Zook were teammates on Loudoun Valley’s 2010 state finalist team.
Radcliffe has started every game since his sophomore season, earning first team All-District and second team All-Region honors each of the last two years.
“I saw the environment and the education they could offer me and I just loved it,” Radcliffe said, adding that he is looking forward to reuniting with Zook. “It’s a great lacrosse program as well.”
Radcliffe and Farmer have also played together on youth and travel teams.
“It’s pretty cool. We’ve known each other for a while,” Farmer said. “We’ll definitely be able to play together throughout our college career and have a friendship.”
Farmer has started on the Titans’ varsity squad since his freshman year. Farmer, a long pole defenseman, helped Dominion win the Dulles District tournament championship as a sophomore and earned first team All-District and All-Region accolades as a junior.
Farmer originally leaned toward committing to Salisbury University.
“I looked at a bunch of other schools. At first I didn’t want to visit Stevenson,” Farmer said. “My mom convinced me to go on the visit, she wanted me to visit one more school. Stevenson fits me well. It’s not too big, not too small and it fits me academically as well.”
