NOVA Athletic Club competitors Kayla Hugg, Sydney Jenkins, Maya Whitfield and Leah Polk combined to score 45 points on their way to winning the Bantam Girls (ages 9-10) division at the 2011 USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships June 30 through July 3 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Hugg, Jenkins, Whitfield and Polk – each from Loudoun - edged out a group from the Greater Norristown PAL Track Club by two points.

In addition to winning the team title, Hugg and Jenkins were also individual champions. Hugg won the 100-meter dash in a personal best and club record time of 13.92 seconds. Jenkins also set a personal and club record in winning the 400 run (1:06.65).

The four girls broke their own club record in the 400 relay in 57.05 seconds, good for second place. Hugg added a runner-up finish in the 200, followed by Jenkins in third place, and Whitfield placed sixth in the 100 dash.

In the Midget Boys (11-12) division, Travis Hugg and Spencer Jenkins combined to earn 21 points to place eighth overall.

Hugg and Jenkins set club and personal best times at the national competition. Jenkins (26.64) finished third in the 200 and was fourth (13.54) in the 100. Hugg finished fourth in both the 200 and the 400 with times of 26.74 and 59.60.

Brandon Polk placed ninth (22.63) in the 200 and was 11th (11.32) in the 100 for Intermediate Boys (15-16) division, and Jennifer Crawford placed 20th in both the 400 and 800 runs for the Youth Girls (13-14) division.
