Loudoun County High School totaled a school-record 139.125 points to place first at the AA Dulles District Gymnastics Championships Feb. 2 at Loudoun Valley High School in Purcellville.

The Raiders placed two or more gymnasts among the top six in each event and occupied three of the top five spots in the all-around.

“Just a fantastic night for our kids. They’ve been working extremely hard,” said Raiders coach Jenny Aubel, who credited her team’s depth and family atmosphere as keys to success. Aubel also extended her appreciation to APEX Gymnastics for allowing her team to practice at its Leeburg facility three times a week.

County senior Jessica Drews claimed the all-around title with a score of 36.4, while freshman teammate Victoria Miner (35.8) placed second.

Joining Drews and Miner on the Raiders’ title team are Emily Fernandez, Leigh Philbrick, Annie Asai, Bridget Gambogi, Karys Gettier, Kathleen Huie and Amanda Spencer.

“We came out strong on bars and we just nailed everything,” Drews said. “Everything we worked for just paid off. The girls did their very best. I was really proud of everyone.”

Briar Woods earned runner-up team honors with 123.9 points, followed by Woodgrove, Tuscarora, Loudoun Valley, Potomac Falls, Park View and Heritage.

Woodgrove’s Amanda Huebner won the floor exercise on her way to a third-place finish in the all-around. Abbey Tsao of Potomac Falls placed fourth in the all-around, County’s Hannah Powell finished fifth and Woodgrove’s Olivia Becker and Briar Woods’ Darja Winkel tied for sixth.

Next up is the Group AA state qualifier meet Feb. 10 at Heritage High School in Leesburg. The competition begins at 6 p.m.
