The Loudoun Storm 16U travel team completed its impressive spring/summer season on top, winning the 2012 Amateur Softball Association’s 16U National Championship Eastern title.
The Storm, coached by JJ Merchant,, won all seven of its games in the tournament, defeating the Bethlehem (Pa.) Blaze, 3-1, in the championship game. Brittany Umphlett blasted a three-run homer in the seventh inning of the title game to turn a 1-0 deficit into a thrilling victory.
The Storm is composed of the following players: Addison Dieterich (Loudoun Valley), Hannah Ritter (Skyline), Taylor Stocks (Musselman), Jami Adler (Tuscarora), Paige Schaeffer (Woodgrove), Emily Ritter (Skyline), Holly Speacht (Woodgrove), Brittany Umphlett (Woodgrove), Kailey Liverman (Loudoun Valley), Courtney Dieterich (Loudoun Valley), Carrie Merchant (Woodgrove), Jazmyn Rohrer (Woodgrove).
