Loudoun Valley High School completed an unbeaten run through its AA Dulles District varsity golf dual match schedule with victories over Tuscarora and Heritage on Sept. 13 and 14.
Valley edged Tuscarora by two shots, 158-160, in a nine-hole match Tuesday at Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club in Leesburg. Ian Hildebrand led the Vikings with a 1-under par round of 35. Hildebrand eagled the par-four sixth hole - hitting his drive onto the green before sinking a 10-foot putt.
Scott Mumpower and Trevor Colby both turned in 4-over par rounds of 40, while Matt Simpson rounded out Valley’s scoring with his round of 43.
Valley closed out the regular season Wednesday with a 130-138 win over Heritage at River Creek Club in a match shortened to seven holes due to lightning.
While Valley went undefeated in district duals, the Vikings were inconsistent in two Dulles District mini tournaments this season. Valley will have another shot at a tournament title Sept. 20 when 1757 Golf Club in Dulles hosts the Dulles District tournament.
Viking coach Troy Mezzatesta describes his squad as “very capable” and said the key at the Dulles tourney is to “minimize too many big numbers and play with a positive mindset.”
