Loudoun Valley is once again AAA Northwest Region golf champions. The Vikings shot a four-player total of 322 on Oct. 4 at Gauntlet Golf Club in Fredericksburg to successfully defend their title by 10 strokes over runner-up Mountain View.
Battlefield, who edged Valley for the Cedar Run District tournament title, placed third with a score of 335, followed by Franklin County (336) and Albemarle (338).
Senior Scott Davidson led the Viking charge with his 1-over par round of 73. Davidson earned low medalist honors among 72 golfers in the tournament.
Valley freshman Ian Hildebrand (77) placed fifth individually, while Tanner Welsh (83) and Mac Kaseman (89) also factored in the Vikings’ scoring.
A pair of Heritage golfers – Ryan Douglass and Nicole Feaster – also recorded solid rounds Monday. The Pride duo finished in a three-way tie with Osbourn Park’s Zack Lauzon for second place.
Douglass and Feaster qualified individually for the AAA state tournament, set for Oct. 11-12 at Nansemond River Golf Course in Suffolk.
Valley will be one of eight teams competing for a state championship in Suffolk. Veteran coach Gary McKay will guide the Vikings into their fourth straight appearance in the state tournament.
