Heritage High School held a celebration Feb. 15 for a pair of senior student-athletes committed to play college volleyball. Stephanie Yokoyama will continue her volleyball career at Johns Hopkins University and Christina Kamis will play at Washington and Lee University.
The duo helped the Pride - coached by Carmel Keilty - gain their first-ever state tournament berth in 2010 and earn a spot in the Region II tournament in 2011. Johns Hopkins competes in the Division III Centennial Conference, and Washington and Lee competes in the Division III Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
Yokoyama earned first team All-State and All-Region honors and was selected as the AA Dulles District Player of the Year as a senior. The standout setter set Virginia High School League records for career assists (3,300) and service points (1,057).
Kamis, an outside hitter, received first team All-Cedar Run District and second team All-Northwest Region honors as a junior.
