The Loudoun County Raiders placed eight wrestlers in the top four of their respective weight classes en route to winning the team title at the 2012 Max Horz Invitational Dec. 8 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Tournament MVP Logan Smith (138 pounds) and Hunter Day (160) each won individual championships to lead the Raiders to the title in the 14-team event. Loudoun County –  defending AA Dulles District champions – totaled 177.5 points to top runner-up John Handley by 20 points.

Alex Reader (182) and Cory Dickey (195) both advanced to the finals and earned runner-up finishes for the Raiders. Brian Monroy (120), Matt Sun (126) and CJ Mills (152) each placed third and Andrew Moreno finished fourth at 113 pounds.

Loudoun Valley and Briar Woods were the other local entries in the tournament. The Vikings – led by individual champions Cade Kiely (113) and Josh Cassada-Maple (170) – placed sixth with 121 points.

Michael Hulcher won the 126-pound title for the Falcons, who placed 13th as a team.

Loudoun County will host Duals for the Warriors –  an event to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project –  at 9 a.m. Dec. 8. The Raiders will honor former U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Anthony Rico at the event. Rico was wounded in Afghanistan.
