Loudoun County High School’s extraordinary string of four consecutive Virginia AA state volleyball titles came to an end after the Raiders lost to Cave Spring, 20-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-21, in the state semifinals Nov. 18 at the Siegel Center in Richmond.
The Raiders (27-2) had reached the state finals in each of the previous five seasons - winning it all in each of the last four campaigns. Cave Spring (29-3) went on to defeat Jamestown in straight sets Nov. 19 in the state title match.
Loudoun County last defeat in the state playoffs came in the 2006 state championship match, also against Cave Spring. The Raiders defeated Cave Spring in the 2009 and 2010 state semifinals.
Cave Spring (five), Loudoun County (four) and Loudoun Valley (three) have combined to win the last 12 Virginia AA state volleyball titles. Loudoun Valley also won the 2009 state championship at the Group AAA level.
The Raiders won Dulles District season and tournament titles, and were also Region II champions this fall. Loudoun County swept Chancellor, 25-12, 25-16, 25-15, in the state quarterfinals Nov. 15 to earn a spot in this year’s state semifinals.

Well Valley has been since 1993 BLUEBIRD, and let’s seeeee here that’s an 18 year span, let’s see if Loudoun County can do it for 18 years. Valley went to states in 1993, 2000, 2001. 2002. 2003. 2004, 2008. 2009. 2010. And everyone knows that it led to 4 state titles for Valley. ;-)

Goooo Vikes, 4 time state volleyball champs 3 at the AA, and one at the AAA. No doubt Valley will remain a state power in this sport.
