    Stolcenberg shines at state gymnastics meet

    Kerry Stolcenberg of Broad Run High School produced the best all-around finish among area competitors with an 11th place showing at the 2013 VHSL Gymnastics Individual Open Championships Feb. 16 at Centreville High School.

    Stolcenberg totaled 36.775 on her four events. Briar Woods' Sara Connors (36.550), Freedom's Alli Gibbs (36.475), Loudoun County's Hannah Powell (35.525) and John Champe's Hallie Nichols (34.075) also delivered top 20 all-around finishes.

    Jamie Stone (39.110) of Western Branch won the all-around title. Event champions were Princess Anne's Helaina Dollins (9.875) on the uneven bars, Stone (9.825) on the balance beam, Great Bridge's Courtney Adams (9.750) on the floor exercise and Hayfield's Molly Overstreet (9.800) on the vault.

    The top local finish in an individual event was shared by Stolcenberg and Gibbs. Both gymnasts scored 9.500 on the balance beam to tie for eighth place. Bria Lloyd (8.975) of Loudoun Valley placed 24th on the beam.
