The Stone Bridge Bulldogs will make a return trip to Richmond for the Virginia AAA volleyball semifinals following a 25-16, 25-20, 25-13 home victory over James River in the state quarterfinals Tuesday evening in Ashburn.
The Bulldogs (28-2) have reeled off 20 straight victories since a Sept. 20 loss to Ashburn rival Broad Run. Stone Bridge has won 60 of a possible 64 sets during that impressive span.
Stone Bridge is headed back to the Siegel Center on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University - the host site for the state semifinals and final. The Bulldogs will face Kellam (31-0) in the semifinals Thursday at 7 p.m.
Kellam - a 25-16, 25-16, 25-12 winner over Patrick Henry on Tuesday - defeated Stone Bridge, 25-22, 18-25, 26-24, 25-14, in last year’s state title match. Ocean Lakes (27-5) and Atlee (29-3) will play in Thursday’s other semifinal. The state championship match is Saturday at 7 p.m.
