Loudoun County High School football standout Brad Szoka is taking his big-play ability to James Madison University. The senior wide receiver verbally committed to the Dukes during a recent official visit to the Harrisonburg school.

Szoka helped lead the Raiders to their first region final appearance since 1996 as a senior. He caught 67 passes for 1,071 yards and 15 touchdowns. Szoka added five touchdowns on interception or kick returns in 2012.

The 6-foot, 170-pound Szoka earned first-team All-Region II honors as both a wide receiver and a kick returner. Szoka’s senior campaign caps an impressive final two varsity seasons. As a junior, Szoka hauled in 52 receptions for 966 yards and 16 scores.

“LCHS is proud that the work that Brad put in has paid off for him and his family,” Raider athletic director Ken Wright stated. “Job well done.”

James Madison, coached by Mickey Matthews, competes in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision. The Dukes have posted a winning record each of the last nine seasons, highlighted by their Division I-AA National Championship in 2004.

Szoka is eligible to sign his letter of intent with James Madison in February.

Taylor also college bound

Loudoun County senior Trey Taylor will continue his football career at Alderson Broaddus College in Philippi, W. Va. Taylor, an offensive guard and defensive tackle, was a three-year varsity starter for the Raiders.

Taylor served as a team captain each of his last two seasons and garnered second team All-District honors as a senior. He was also an officer in the Raider Athletic Club.

“LCHS is very proud of Trey Taylor ... his hard work and leadership have paid off for him,” Loudoun County athletic director Ken Wright stated. “As great a player as Trey is, he is an even better person, and we are just very proud he is a Raider.”

Alderson Broaddus renewed its football program in 2012 for the first time since 1930. After producing a 9-2 record playing an Independent schedule in 2012, the Battlers will compete at the NCAA Division II level beginning with the 2013 season.
