Three Park View football players sign to play in college

Park View High School seniors Ryan McCarter, Marcus Smith and Dante Absher signed letters of intent to play college football Feb. 1. McCarter is headed to Liberty University, while Smith and Absher will both play at Glenville State College.

All three student-athletes were team captains for coach Ferris Eways in 2011. 

McCarter hauled in 135 receptions for 1,899 yards and 22 touchdowns during his illustrious Park View career. McCarter, a two-time first team All-Dulles District selection, holds school records for receptions in a season (70), touchdowns in a season (13) and receiving yards in a game (229).

Liberty, located in Lynchburg, competes in the Big South Conference and is a member of the NCAA Division I Football Championships Subdivision, formerly Division I-AA.

Absher and Smith both received partial scholarships to Glenville State, a Division II school that competes in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Absher, a first-team All-Dulles District defensive back as a senior, was recruited by Glenville State to play receiver. Absher completed his Park View career with 102 receptions, 1,367 yards, 16 touchdowns, five interceptions and 67 total tackles.

Smith was a second team All-Dulles District defensive lineman in 2010 and 2011. He was recruited to play defensive end. Smith capped his varsity career with 108 total tackles, 12 sacks and 32 tackles for loss.
