Woodgrove High School collected 22 of a possible 33 victories against Loudoun Valley during the 2011-2012 school year to win the Western Cup for the first time. The Western Cup was created in 2010 to cultivate a friendly athletic rivalry between Western Loudoun’s two public high schools.

Loudoun Valley opened in 1962 and was the lone high school in Western Loudoun until Woodgrove opened in 2010. Both schools are in Purcellville.

Loudoun Valley won the first Western Cup based on its 51-0 victory over Woodgrove in varsity football on Oct. 1, 2010. With the schools competing in different districts - Woodgrove (AA Dulles) and Loudoun Valley (AAA Cedar Run) in 2010-2011 - only football counted towards the Cup.

All varsity sports (regular season games and district meets) counted towards the Western Cup this school year with Loudoun Valley returning to the Dulles District.

The Wolverines collected 15 of their 22 overall victories in girls sports, leading the Vikings by a 15-2 margin. Loudoun Valley boys won nine of 16 contests against Woodgrove, including a sweep in boys basketball and baseball.
