Aloha Classic

LC report: The Lady Raiders finished an impressive 3rd place 107.05 behind AAA foes Freedom (1st 109.175) and Stafford (2nd 107.45). Scoring was based on the best three scores out of the teams’ four entries.

The Raiders were led by senior Jess Drews, who finished 2nd on beam (9.45), 5th on floor (9.525), 6th in the all around (36.325 - season high) and 8th on bars (8.575).

Freshman Victoria Miner finished 3rd on vault (9.175), 7th in the all around (35.675 - season high), 8th on bars (8.575). Miner set a school record on vault. The previous record was held by Katy Bauer (2007-08) and Jess Sheehan (2008-09) 9.15.

Sophomore Hannah Powell finished 6th on bars (8.675) and 9th in the all around (35.05) Sophomore Annie Asai had season highs on vault and floor. Junior Leigh Philbrick had a season high on bars.

Wednesday, Jan. 11

Quad meet at Tuscarora

LC report: The Raiders scored their highest score of the season, posting a 135.1 defeating Tuscarora by almost 10 points. The team was led by senior Jess Drews, who set a new school record by posting a 9.7. Her previous record of 9.6 was set on Jan. 12, 2011. Jess was 1st in the all around, on vault, bars, beam and floor.

Sophomore Hannah Powell had her highest score of the season in the all around while placing 2nd. Hannah also was 1st on bars, 2nd on beam, floor and 4th on vault. Congratulations to Annie Asai who qualified for regionals on vault and to Amanda Spencer who qualified on Floor. 

Junior Leigh Philbrick competed on bars for the first time this season as she is recovering from an early season injury. Freshman Victoria Miner placed 3rd in the all around, on beam, floor, and 7th on vault. Contributing to the team score were Kathleen Huie, Bridget Gambogi and Karys Gettier.

The Raiders will take a break for exams next week and will return to action in The Aloha Classic at Patriot HS in Gainesville.

Tuesday, Dec. 20

-Miner, Raiders tops in tri-meet

LC report: The Lady Raiders continued their winning way at Potomac Falls High School. The team finished 1st among the 3 teams (Briar Woods, Potomac Falls) and is now 8-0 on the season.

Leading the way for the Raiders was senior Jess Drews placing 1st on vault and beam. Sophomore Hannah Powell was 3rd in the all-around, 1st on floor and bars and 2nd on vault. Freshman Victoria Miner was 1st in the all-around, 1st on floor.

Qualifying to the regional meet on floor was sophomore Karys Gettier. Contributing to the team scores were Bridget Gambogi on beam, bars and floor; Kathleen Huie on vault, bars and floor; Anne Asai on beam and vault; Amanda Spencer on floor.

Personal best’s were achieved by Kathleen Huie on vault and floor; Bridget Gambogi on beam and floor; Karys Gettier on bars, beam and floor.

Congratulations to the team. We will next compete after winter break at Woodgrove on Jan. 5.

-Loudoun County wins Purple Division

LC report: The Raiders won the Purple Division of the Battelfied “Battle against Cancer” meet. The team was led by freshman Victoria Miner who placed 1st in the all around, floor, bars; placing 4th on vault and 2nd on beam.

Senior Jessica Drews placed 1st on beam and vault; placing 2nd in the all around, floor and 3rd on bars. Sophomore Annie Asai placed 4th on floor, 7th on beam and 8th on vault

Sophomore Karys Gettier placed 10th on bars. Sophomore Amanda Spencer placed 9th on floor. Also contributing were sophomores Bridget Gambogi on beam and Kathleen Huie on bars and vault.

 

Wednesday, Dec. 14

-Raiders tops in six-team meet

Loudoun County High School gymnasts occupied three of the top five spots in the all-around to lead the Raiders to the team title in a six-team meet Dec. 14 at Heritage High School in Leesburg. The Raiders were competing in their first meet of the season.

Senior Jessica Drews won two individual events on her way to placing first in the all-around with 35.975 points. Freshman Victoria Miner and sophomore Hannah Powell also produced top five all-around finishes for the Raiders.

Tuscarora placed second as a team, followed by Woodgrove in third, Briar Woods placed fourth, Loudoun Valley finished fifth and Heritage with its lone gymnast was sixth.
