    Loudoun County 3, Woodgrove 0

    LC report: Loudoun County swept Woodgrove to ruin the Wolverines’ Senior Night and finish their regular season 19-1 overall and a perfect 18-0 in the district for their 56th consecutive district victory. Loudoun County will host the Dulles District tournament all next week with quarterfinals beginning Monday vs. Dominion. The semifinals are Tuesday and teh final is Thursday. All matches at 7 p.m.

    The Raiders were led by Maggie Phillips (11 kills, 6 digs, 6 service points, 2 aces, 1 assist), Rachel Roberts (5 kills, 4 blocks), Jane Feddersen (5 kills, 2 blocks, 5 service points, 2 digs), Taylor Huewe (5 kills, 2 digs, 1 block, 1 assist), Megan Fox (26 assists, 4 digs, 2 blocks, 2 kills, 2 service points, 1 ace), Kelsey Slack (19 service points, 13 digs, 2 aces), Kelsey Anderson (12 service points, 5 digs, 2 aces), Quinn O’Connell (2 kills, 1 block, 1 assist), Taylor Borup (1 kill, 1 block). 

    The JV Raiders finished their perfect season 20-0 with a 2-0 sweep over Woodgrove 25-11, 25-23. Congratulations to the JV Raiders for finishing off a masterful season. 

    The Freshmen Raiders fought hard, but lost a heartbreaker to the Wolverines 1-2 14-25, 25-8, 14-16. The Raiders finished their great season 18-2.  The Raiders were led by Allie Sarver (1 kill, 6 aces), Abby Wright (3 kills), Annie Beatty (2 kills), Alyssa Paige (6 kills), Madi Pope (1 kill, 1 ace), Logan Roberstadd (2 kills, 2 aces), Maddie Szoka (1 ace), Elyse Serafin (1 kill, 1 ace).

    Loudoun County completes their regular season and the varsity returns to action on Monday as they host Dominion in the quarterfinal of the District Tournament. Come out and support your Raiders at 7:00 PM. The Raiders have the top seed in the Dulles District Tournament (10/29, 10/30, and 11/1) and the top seed in the Region II Tournament (11/6, 11/8, 11/10) with all matches starting at 7 p.m.

    -LC report: Loudoun County honored four seniors for their accomplishments before the match, and their seniors took over to defeat Dominion, 25-10, 21-25, 25-12, 25-13. The Raiders improved their record to 18-1 (17-0) on the season.

    -LC report: Loudoun County punched its ticket to the Region II Tournament that will begin Nov 5 following its 23-25, 25-7, 25-19, 25-21 win over Briar Woods. The Raiders won their 7th straight district championship and locked up the No. 1 seed and home-court advantage in the Dulles District Tournament that begins Oct. 29. The Raiders improved to 16-1 (16-0) on the season and won their 54th consecutive district match.

    -LC report: Loudoun County raised money for Breast Cancer and the Side-Out Foundation Thursday night while battling their Leesburg rival, Tuscarora. While Loudoun County swept their rival with ease 25-14, 25-9, 25-18, the real winners tonight are the survivors and those finding a cure for Breast Cancer. The Raiders improved to 14-1 (14-0) on the season with their 13th 3-0 sweep.

    Hildebrand places second in state

    -LV report: Ian Hildebrand played two days of consistent golf to finish as the state runner up at the group AA State Golf Championships, Monday and Tuesday in Harrisonburg.

    Ian shot 73-73 in some cold temp/rain on Monday and Tuesday. He lost by one stroke to a senior from Blacksburg HS (78-67). Ian’s ball striking was spectacular and when he missed greens his short game always left him with a birdie or par save opportunity. The Loudoun Valley junior had a strong season winning several tournament and and gave himself chances to win about every tournament we entered.

    Also Ryan Douglass of Heritage HS medaled at the State Tourney placing 8th overall. The Loudoun contingency had a real solid showing this week at the AA State competition.

    -PF report: The Panthers rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat the Huskies 17-25, 23-25, 25-13, 25-18, 15-5. The victory was the sixth in two weeks, including a trio of five-set wins for the Panthers (8-1, 9-1). 

    Shout out to Hailey Bahr for a career match with crucial blocks at crucial times. Patricia Mook had the most blocks for points of her career in a single match with 10.
    Olivia Camera had the most digs of her young career with 19.

    Freshmen Holly Carlton and Jasmine Ellison stepped up with Holly serving 4 aces and 18 points, 2 aces and 8 pts coming to start out the fifth game. Jasmine Ellison helped turn around the 3rd game with 4 of her 8 kills. Makaely Thomas had a great night really coming to life in the 5th game.

Leading the Titans were senior Sam Stilwell, who shot a 2-under 34 in his final home match. Erik Dulik shot 2-over with Kurt Funkhouser and Matt Henderson shooting matching 3-over scores.

    -Potomac Falls won another five-set match to improve to 4-1 in the Dulles District and 5-1 overall.     -DHS report: Playing a tournament for the third straight day, the Titans clinched the Dulles District season title for the second straight year with their 152-159 win over Loudoun County at Westpark. Sam Stilwell’s 1-under 35 was the low round of the day. Matt Henderson’s 1-over 37, Erik Dulik’s 38 and Kurt Funkhouser’s 42 rounded out the scores.

    The Titans will meet Briar Woods on Tuesday at Trump National as their final dual match of the season before moving onto the Dulles District Championships on Sept. 18 at Bull Run.

    -LC report: Loudoun County started fast and kept pounding the ball away to sweep Loudoun Valley, 25-12, 25-18, 25-16 in Purcellville.

    The Lady Raiders were led by Taylor Huewe (14 kills, 3 digs, 2 blocks, 2 service points, 1 ace), Jane Feddersen (9 kills, 12 service points, 2 digs, 1 ace), Maggie Phillips (9 kills, 9 digs, 8 service points, 1 block, 2.824 passing rating), Rachel Roberts (5 kills, 2 blocks), Quinn O’Connell (3 kills, 1 assist), Nicole Orndorff (3 kills, 1 dig), Megan Fox (23 assists, 4 service points, 3 aces, 3 digs), Mandy Powers (10 assists, 5 service points, 5 digs), Hannah Vandegrift (7 assists, 4 service points, 2 aces), Kelsey Slack (6 digs, 4 service points, 2.667 passing rating), Kelsey Anderson (2 digs, 2 service points, 1 ace, 3.0 passing rating), Emily Solis (2 digs, 3.0 passing rating), Taylor Borup (1 kill). 

    The JV Raiders fought back to sweep the Vikings as well 25-12, 25-19. The Freshmen Raiders also played solid in their sweep of the Vikings 25-12, 25-16. Leading the Raiders to victory were Allie Sarver (7 aces) and Elyse Serafin (4 aces). The Raiders improved their record to 2-0 (2-0) on the season. Loudoun County returns to action Tuesday as they travel to Heritage to take on their Leesburg rivals at 6/6/7 p.m.

    -LV report: The Viking holfers shot a 2 over par 142 to beat Potomac Falls and Loudoun County. Ian Hildebrand lead the team with 2 under 33, Scott Mumpower one under 34, Trevor Colby 38 and Mark Shayka 37. Ed Desherow shot 41 and first-year player Noah White recorded a 48. The team plays Briar Woods on Thursday at Loudoun Golf & CC.

    -LC report: Loudoun County kicked of its 2012 season with a 3-0 sweep 25-20, 25-15, 25-23 over Potomac Falls Tuesday in Leesburg.

    The Lady Raiders were led by Maggie Phillips (13 kills, 8 digs, 13 service points, 3 aces, 1 block), Taylor Huewe (8 kills, 4 digs, 4 service points, 1 ace), Megan Fox (15 assists, 4 digs, 2 service points), Rachel Roberts (5 kills, 5 blocks), Jane Feddersen (4 kills, 4 aces, 8 service points, 2 digs, 1 block), Quinn O’Connell (2 kills), Kelsey Slack (13 digs, 3 service points), Kelsey Anderson (9 digs, 5 service points, 1 ace, 1 assist), Hannah Vandegrift (5 assists, 1 dig), Kirsten Covell (1 kill, 1 block), Nicole Orndorff (1 kill), Taylor Borup (1 block).

Loudoun County returns to action this Thursday as they travel to Loudoun Valley to take on the Vikings at 6/6/7 PM.

    -JC report: The Knights golf team brought home the first varsity win in school history, defeating host Park View at Algonkian Golf Course. Leading the charge for Champe was Nate Causey, who fired a 45.

    -DHS report: Dominion defeated Potomac Falls in a 9-hole meet at Trump National GC. Erik Dulik shot a 4 under 32 and Sam Stilwell shot a 1 under 35 to lead the Titans to victory. Both Kurt Funkhouser and Matt Henderson shot 3 over 39’s.


    Tuesday, Aug. 14

    Dominion wins Cheers Invitational

    DHS report: The Dominion High School golf team, led by VA State AA Champion Sam Stilwell’s 71 and Erik Dulik’s 73. shot a school-record 298 for 18 holes in the Cheers Invitational at Algonkian Golf Course and won. Kurt Funkhouser and Matt Henderson rounded out the Titans scores with both shooting rounds of 77. 

    All 13 of Loudoun County’s public schools participated. Group AAA Stone Bridge was 2nd with a 305 and Tuscorora was 3rd with 311. Matt Ashley from Stone Bridge was the low medalist with a 69. Sam Stilwell was 2nd, and four players tied for 3rd: Erik Dulik, Ryan Frick (Briar Woods), Ian Hildebrand (Loudoun Valley) and Ryan O’Sullivan (Heritage). 

    The win, when coupled with their second place finish at the District Mini on Aug. 7, gives Dominion a two-match commanding lead over the rest of the Dulles District before going into the dual matches for the rest of the season.
