He broke Joe Bushrod’s record of 1,048 points against Heritage on Jan. 17. Sophomore Quad Borup had 17 points for the Raiders, including a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.

LCHS report: The gymnastics team of Loudoun County participated in the higher scoring Navy division, placing 4th behind AAA Stafford, Battlefield and Brooke Point teams. The team had an awesome meet. The team was lead by Hannah Powell who placed 4th in the all around with a season high 36.025. She also placed 5th on floor and 4th on beam. Victoria Miner (in competition for the first time after suffering an injury at the first meet of the season) placed 8th on floor and 5th on vault. Ashley Wright met the qualifying standard for regionals on vault. Leigh Philbrick (also in her first meet recovering from a pre-season injury) met the qualifying score for regionals on bars. Lauren McCullough had a personal best on the vault.

-HHS report: The Pride was down by 7 in the 1st quarter but faught back to tie the game 34-34 in the 4th. Both teams exchanged baskets going down the stretch. Senior Breanna Smart fouled out on an and 1 with 1:47 left on the clock and the Pride was up by 2. The Raiders regained the lead by 1. With 35 seconds left, Coach Smart called a time out to draw up a play to seal the victory. Kayla Tibbs dribbled right and crossed up the Raider defender and had a wide open jump shot that came up short. The Raiders rebounded and the Pride had a quick foul. The Raider player went 1 for 2 from the free throw line and Coach Smart called another timeout to seal a victory or tie it up and go into overtime. Kayla tibbs dribbled right and had a wide open lay up that came up short. The Pride is 8-8 overall and 7-5 in the district.

THS report: The Huskies had a great meet at Claude Moore today. The men fell to Dominion HS with a score of 76 to 94, but beat out the Loudoun County Raiders with a score of 91 to 79. The women were similarly defeated by Dominion 72 to 98, but also came out on top of LCHS 97 to 72.

-Raiders go 5-0 at Nokesville Duals

-LC report: Loudoun County Wrestling traveled to Kettle Run High School on Saturday and wrestled in the Nokesville Duals. The Raiders went 5-0 on the day, raising it’s record to 29-4 on the season. LCHS beat Kettle Run 43-20 (Matt Sun beat Yost 1-0, ranked 3rd in AA state), 52-23 over Colonial Heights, 78-6 over Spotsylvania, 72-6 over Osbourne Park, and 45-28 over Dinwiddie.

The Raiders next action is at Archbishop Spalding Duals, MD (Jan. 18-19) and then at home (senior night) on Jan 23 at 5:30 p.m. for their last event of the regular season. On Jan. 23, the Raiders will be going for their first Dulles District Dual Championship against Dominion and Potomac Falls, currently 7-0 in district action.

-LC report: The Raiders took 1st place in a quad meet. On Senior night, Lauren McCullough placed 3rd on bars, 2nd on beam, 5th on floor and 2nd in the all around. Hannah Powell was 4th on vault, 1st on bars, 1st on beam, 1st on floor, 1st in the all around. Abby Tostenson was 4th on vault. Ashleigh Wright was 6th on beam and 7th on floor. Bridget Gambogi competed in the all around for the 1st time, setting personal bests on beam and floor. Danielle Morales competed on beam and floor, setting a personal best on floor. The team will next travel to the Patriot Invitational on Jan. 19.

THS report: THS placed 2nd with a 128.4 in the team division to Loudoun County’s 129.0. In the individual competition: Shannon Keye won vault with a score of 8.80 with Alex Upp and Megan Fogelson tying for second with an 8.70. On bars, Alex Upp tied for 1st place with a score of 8.70. Shannon Keye placed 5th on bars with a 7.90. On floor, Alex Upp placed 5th with an 8.55 and Shannon Key placed 7th with an 8.450. In the all-around, Alex Upp Placed 3rd with a score of 33.350, Shannon Keye placed 4th with a score of 33.30, Keni Nodland placed 7th with a score of 30.8 and Megan Fogelson placed 8th with a score of 30.75. Alex Upp and Shannon Keye have qualified for the Regional Gymnastics Championships in the all around. Megan has qualified on Vault, Beam and Floor. Nadeen Elsharkawy has qualified on vault and Kelly Shepherd has qualified on floor.

HHS report: Crosstown rival Tuscarora stepped into the lions den expecting to get a win against the Pride. The Pride were geared up and ready for the challenge. In the first quarter, both teams exchanged baskets but the Pride pulled away in the second quarter and never looked back. The Pride were up by 19 in the fourth quarter before the Huskies stormed back but it was to late. The ladies of the Pride prevailed, 59-52, led by Breanna Smart’s 30, Kelsey Tidgewell’s 13, Kayla Tibbs’ 11 and their aggressive defense.

THS report: The Tuscarora Lady Huskies fell to 7-3 in the Dulles District and 8-5 overall. The Lady Huskies were led by junior Alysha Berry with a school-record 23 points and 3 rebounds, sophomore Alexis Bailey with 8 points and 3 steals, and senior Ashley Jennings with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals.

Gymnastics meet at Woodgrove

-LC report: Loudoun County finished second behind Tuscarora by 0.6 (1 fall and 1 toe point) with the highest score of our season. The team was led by Hannah Powell, who placed 1st in the all around, 1st on floor, 3rd on beam, 4th on bars and 2nd on vault. Lauren McCullough placed 4th on bars and 3rd in the all around. Lauren also meet the qualifying standard for regionals on floor. Abby Tostenson meet qualifying standard on bars. Turning in solid performances were Ashleigh Wright, Bridget Gambogi and Amanda Spencer.

-Tuscarora sweeps tri-meet: The Huskies came out on top over Loudoun County High School and John Champe High School. The final combined score was 180 to LCHS 160 and JCHS 82. THS boys were victorious over LCHS 91-79 and also over JCHS 121-47. THS girls squeaked out LCHS with a score of 89-81, but had a much more decisive victory over JCHS with a score of 125-35. The THS Huskies remain undefeated at 6-0.

-Heritage 45, Dominion 22: Heritage put an impressive display of defensive, by holding Dominion’s superstar AJ to no points. Heritage also showed their post game by working the ball in to Kelsey Tidgewell, who led the team with 15 points in the paint. Kayla Tibbs had another strong performance with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assist and 1 steal.

Breana Smart came of the bench and punched in an impressive 10 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assist, 5 steals, and 1 block.  The most impressive performance came from Heritage’s two Defensive Studs Jonique Mitchell and Christina Smart these ladies held AJ in check all night not allowing her an opportunity to create her shot and get to the heart of the defense.
