Baseball
-Osbourn 14, Loudoun Valley 7
-Stone Bridge 14, Thomas Jefferson 1 (5 inn.)
SB report - The Stone Bridge Bulldogs hosted Thomas Jefferson Friday night in a Liberty District contest. It was the second meeting of the two teams, with the Bulldogs coming out on top in the first game with a 14-0 win. This game was again dominated by the Bulldogs, who pitched and hit their way to a 14-1 win in a five inning game shortened by the mercy rule.
Junior righthander Tyler Mocabee continued his stellar pitching by throwing three hitless innings, while striking out two and allowing no walks. Junior lefty Andrew Robertson, making his 2011 varsity debut, relieved Mocabee and pitched the fourth inning, showing good poise and control. The other junior lefthander, Alex Logan, pitched an impressive fifth inning, retiring the side on just eleven pitches.
The Bulldogs offense was held scoreless in the first inning by TJ starter Daniel Hothem, but erupted for 11 runs in the second inning. Third baseman Ryan Johnston got it started with a one out home run to left field. That opened the floodgates, and before they were finished, the Bulldogs had sent 16 hitters to the plate and pounded out eight hits, including four for extra base hits. Senior catcher Colin Karafa smashed a two-run double to the left field fence. Senior Conor Donovan drove in Karafa with a single, and scored himself on a double by Spencer Rositano. The Bulldogs weren’t finished though, and got RBI hits from Ty Lighton, Josh Kuzbel, and Sid Harvey before the inning ended.
The Stone Bridge added their final three runs in the next inning on another Ryan Johnston home run to left center field, giving him two home runs and four RBI’s on the night. Johnston is the first Bulldog to have multiple home runs in one game in the history of the baseball program.
The win went to Mocabee, his second of the season. The Bulldogs record now stands at 6-1 as they prepare to play in the Let’s Play Two tournament against some of the other Northern Region powerhouses during Spring Break.
-Loudoun County 6, Briar Woods 1
BW report - The Briar Woods Falcons fell to 6-2 in the Dulles District as they were defeated by the Loudoun County Raiders. Taylor Cokeley was on for the Raiders, holding the Briar Woods offensive attack to just three hits. Cokeley struck out 5 while only walking one.
Thomas Lechler had the lone RBI for the Falcons with a sac fly to right field to score Victor Rizzardi after he led off the game with a triple. Lechler was 1-3 with an RBI, Victor Rizzardi was 1-3 with a Triple and a run scored, and Cam Serigne added a base hit.
The Falcons look to get back on track Saturday when they travel to Park View to take on the Patriots and the Bishop O"Connell Knights.

-Freedom 6, Tuscarora 3
Tuscarora report - The Huskies seemed on their way to victory over Freedom High School Friday night when a two-out rally in the sixth inning gave the Eagles the lead and Tuscarora took the loss, 6-3.
The evening began auspiciously for the Huskies as catcher Hunter Oke, who sparked the Tuscarora offense all night, walked and courtesy runner Ryan Wilson stole second. Left fielder Eddie Lang moved Wilson to third with a sacrifice bunt and right fielder Brady Kaplan drove him in with a single to right to put Tuscarora up 1-0.
The Huskies increased their lead to 2-0 in the fourth when Oke again led off the inning with a single to right and runner Wilson stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and crossed the plate on Eddie Lang’s groundout to short.
Tuscarora starting pitcher Tyler Dietrich, with the help of some sparkling defensive plays, held the tough Freedom squad scoreless through four innings, but gave up a run on two hits in the top of the fifth. The wheels came off in the sixth, though, when with two outs the Eagles scored four runs to go ahead 5-2.
The Huskies pulled within two in the bottom of the inning when Oke again walked and runner Wilson made his way around the diamond on an infield hit and an error and stole home. Freedom scored once more in the top of the seventh to increase the lead to the final score of 6-3.
Despite the tough loss, the Huskies’ bats showed more life as several Tuscarora players in addition to Oke contributed to the attack, including centerfielder Dalton Scanlon (1 for 4 with a single); second baseman Travis Burke (2 for 3 with a sacrifice); shortstop Bernie Mayflower (1 for 3 with a single and a walk); and right fielder Brady Kaplan (1 for 3 with a single.)
Following spring break, the Huskies will look to bloom with the warmer temperature when they return to the field to face James Wood High School on April 26.

C Beth Lewis led the team on offense with 2 singles, a triple, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. The Bulldogs had 10 total hits in the game.
After Spring Break, Stone Bridge faces the Langley Saxons (April 25), and the South Lake Seahawks (April 26), both games away.
-Potomac Falls 8, Park View 1
PF report - After a week’s worth of rainouts, the Potomac Falls Panthers (8-2, 6-1 Dulles District) were ready to get back outside and play some ball. The Panthers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning while batting through the entire line-up and never looked back.
The Panthers scored three more runs in the second inning to take a 7-1 lead, and added an insurance run in the fourth inning eventually knocking out Park View’s starting pitcher Robin Heironimus on its way to its fourth consecutive win with a district victory over the Patriots 8-1.
The Panthers totaled 10 hits on the evening and were led by junior third baseman Lauren Fulcher (3-4) with a double, triple and three runs scored, senior pitcher Heather Kiefer (3-4) with a double and four runs batted in, and junior center fielder Carlyn Hanzel (1-4) who hit a 2-run homer, her second of the season.
Kiefer allowed one unearned run in the first inning and shut down the Patriots the remainder of the game. Kiefer only allowed five Patriot batters to reach base on two hits (both by junior lead-off hitter Sam Thomas), while striking out nine and walking none.
Senior Kaitlyn McClung (1-4, run) started the game off with a lead-off slap to left field, followed by senior Erin Frasca (1-3, run) who bunted her way on, and Fulcher who reached base on an error to load the bases. Kiefer drove the first pitch to the base of the centerfield fence for a double and 2 RBIs, and sophomore Anna Zembar (1-4) singled down the third base line driving in a run. She was followed by senior Kayla Guttridge who walked to load the bases again before junior Caitie McClay grounded out driving in the final run of the inning.
After the Patriots scored their only run on two errors and a passed ball, the Panthers came out swinging again in the second inning. Fulcher tripled to right and Kiefer dropped a single into right field scoring Fulcher. Zembar hit into a fielders choice before Hanzel homered to right center. The Panthers scored their final run in the fourth inning after Fulcher singled and stole second base before Kiefer hit her in for the third time with her fourth RBI of the night.
-PV report - Heather Kiefer drove in the only two runs she would need in the first inning as she pitched and hit her Panthers to a 8-1 victory over the Park View Patriots. For the evening, Heather drove in four with three hits and held the Patriots to an unearned run in the first.
The Patriots were led by Sam Thomas who had three hits to raise her season average to nearly .600. Robin Heironimus pitched four innings for Park View and absorbed the loss. Brittney Moore pitched three scoreless innings in relief for the Patriots. Panther center fielder, C Hanzel homered in the second for the Panthers.
Park View will be back in action on April 26 when they travel to Loudoun County after spring break.

Baseball
-Broad Run 9, Freedom 0
BR report - The Broad Run High School Spartans baseball team improved its record to 7-0 on the season with a 9-0 win at Freedom High School on Thursday night. The Spartans are 7-0 in Dulles District play.
Sophomore AJ Powell threw his second no-hitter of the season on the mound for the Spartans to improve his record to 3-0 on the season. Powell struck out 7 batters on the evening while walking 3.
Offensively, the Spartans continued their hot hitting as of late pounding out 17 hits on the evening. Leading the team was junior shortstop Conor Jessop with 4 hits (1 double), junior Andrew Seigel with 3 hits (1 double, 3 runs scored) and junior Chris Johnson with 3 hits (1 double, 3 runs scored).
The Spartans will return to action this coming Saturday as they are scheduled to host two games at Broad Run in the Cheers/DST Wood Bat Tournament. Game times for the Spartans are 9 AM vs. Marshall and 4:30 PM vs. Heritage.
-Stone Bridge 2, McLean 1
SB report - The Stone Bridge Bulldogs hosted the McLean Highlanders on Thursday night in a classic Liberty District showdown. The Bulldogs prevailed 2-1 in a game dominated by the pitchers. The winning pitcher was Bulldog senior righty Mac West, who pitched brilliantly, holding the hard-hitting Highlanders to just three hits over 4 2/3 innings.
McLean answered with their ace Jose Sborz, who had given up just one run all season. Sborz, who is verbally committed to UVA, did not disappoint, fanning 11 Stone Bridge hitters and tossing a complete game four-hitter. However, the Bulldogs touched Sborz for two runs in the fourth inning, and those runs would prove to be decisive.
Josh Kuzbel led off the inning by reaching base on an error. One out later Sid Harvey singled, putting runners on first and second with one out. Senior third baseman Ryan Johnston then delivered a clutch two-run double scoring both Kuzbel and Harvey. It was the last Stone Bridge hit on the night, but it was all they would need.
West was relieved by senior Steve Putnick with the bases loaded in the fifth inning. Putnick retired the next batter on three pitches to work out of the jam. The Highlanders were not finished though, and they would not go down without a fight. They got a leadoff single in the sixth from Tommy Cresce, but Putnick would strand him at second base. McLean threatened again in the seventh, getting runners on first and second before Putnick struck out Sborz and enticed a game-ending comebacker to earn the save.
The Bulldogs offense was led by Johnston. In addition to the two-run double, he received the only two walks issued by Sborz, the second an intentional pass. Mac West also helped himself with a single, and Josh Kuzbel stole two bases in addition to his single.
-Dominion 3, Tuscarora 2 (8 inn.)
Tuscarora report - The Tuscarora varsity baseball team lost a close one Thursday night as the Dominion Titans got past the Huskies 3-2 in eight innings. Tuscarora’s starting pitcher Bernie Mayflower kept the Huskies in the game for seven innings, yielding only 2 runs on 3 hits.
The Tuscarora offense, however, was again dogged by a lack of clutch hitting, leaving men stranded on base in five out of the eight frames. The Huskies went up 1-0 in the second inning when DH Ian Anderson was hit by a pitch and leftfielder Eddie Lang sacrificed him over to second on a bunt. Centerfielder Dalton Scanlon then drove in Anderson with a two-out double to left. Scanlon went 2-4 on the night with two doubles.
Dominion answered in the top of the fourth when they scored two runs on a single and a double. The Huskies came right back in the bottom of the fourth when shortstop Travis Burke, who went 1 for 3 on the night, tied the game with a double down the leftfield line that drove in first baseman Pete Sotos who had reached on an error.
The game remained knotted until the top of the eighth inning when the Titans scored the go-ahead run on 5 hits and then held the Huskies hitless in the bottom of the inning to gain the win. In addition to Scanlon and Burke, third baseman Tyler Dietrich also contributed to the Huskies’ offense, going 1 for 4 with a single.

The Huskies’ only hit came in the first on a single by Melissa Brooks, just over the outstretched hands of Park View’s Brittney Moore at second base.

Titan report - Despite playing without Sr Goalie Andrew Fawkes (sprained ankle) and a number of other starters, the Dominion Titans were able to defeat the Woodgrove Wolverines, 12-10, Thursday night in the beautiful new Wolverine Stadium.
Freshman Christian Renick stepped into Goal for the Titans and came up with several key saves in the second half to help secure the Titan victory. Woodgrove got on the board first with Kellen McCarthy feeding Chad Neirgarth on both of the first two goals scored by Woodgrove.
The Titans finally scored late in the first on a dish from Fr Middie Andrew Ashley to Soph Attack Brett Bushman, who returned the favor to Ashley in the second period. Although the Wolverines led early, holding a 3 -1 advantage at the end of the first period, the Titan’s edged ahead and led at the half 5-4, a lead they never relinquished.
It was brother-to-brother midway thru the 4th period, as Sr Attack Stephen Tarrant fed younger brother Ben (Fresh Attack) for one of Ben’s two goals he had on the night.
For the Titans, Bushman and Sr Kyle Hall both scored hat-tricks with 3 goals a piece, as did Chad Neirgarth (4 goals) and Dennis Radcliff (4 goals) for the Wolverines.

PF report - Stephen Fisher and Connor Gruber combined for a one hitter as Potomac Falls rolled over Park View 11-1 in 5 innings. Leading the way for the Panthers was Jackson Rogers’ 2-run home run and Michael Lascomb’s 3 RBIs.
Potomac Falls got things rolling in the first when Ben Sweger was hit by the first pitch of the game from Hunter Wolf. Sweger then stole second and scored when Jackson Rogers hit a towering shot to centerfield that hit the yellow piping on top of the fence for a 2-run home run.
The Patriots got one back in the 3rd when Billy Leckemby reached on an error and was sacrificed to 2nd by Brian Tubridy. Hayden Earley then delivered Park View’s only hit of the night with a double to rightfield to score Leckemby and cut the score to 2-1.
The Panthers blew the game open in the 4th inning scoring 5 runs. Colin Deely started the hit parade with a single to right. After stealing second, he was knocked in by Lascomb’s first RBI of the night. Lascomb advanced to second on an error and then scored when Dan Laub’s throw to third was high and went into leftfield. Tyler Caldwell then laced a single to right and promptly stole second. He was knocked in by Matt Hoover’s single to left. Hoover was then thrown out trying to steal before Stephen Fisher singled to center. Fisher stole second and scored on Ben Sweger’s single to rightfield. Sweger then scored from first on Ryan Mahoney’s triple to rightfield to put the Panthers up 7-1. Mahoney was left stranded at third to end the inning.
In the 5th inning, Potomac Falls added 4 more runs when Ryan Miller led off with a single to center. After a walk to Deely, Lascomb followed with a long double to left to score both runners. Lascomb advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Matt Byrd reached on an error. Byrd then stole second and scored on Sam Bass’ sacrifice fly to deep center to end the scoring at 11-1.
Connor Gruber came on to pitch the final inning for the Panthers and picked up his first save of the year while striking out one batter. Fisher ended with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk for 4 innings of work.
The Panthers will take on Briar Woods at Panther Park on Thursday with the game starting at 6:00.
-Briar Woods 2, Tuscarora 1
BW report - The Briar Woods Falcons improved to 6-1 on the baseball diamond tonight as the Falcons clipped the Tuscarora Huskies 2-1 in Dulles District action. Cam Serigne pitched a complete game four-hitter and improved to 2-0 on the mound.
The key play came in the third innning when Matt Irish singled in two runs with two outs. Kevin Wood was also 1-1 with a single and a run scored.
-Tuscarora report- The Tuscarora varsity baseball team found itself on the short end of a pitching duel Monday night as the Huskies were edged out by the Briar Woods Falcons 2-1 at Briar Woods High School.
In a quick, 90-minute game notable for crisp pitching and defense, Tuscarora starting pitcher Tyler Dietrich certainly pitched well enough to earn a win, racking up six strikeouts in six innings and giving up only 4 hits and two runs. But the Briar Woods pitching was just a tad stingier, yielding only 3 hits and one run to the Huskies.
It was the Huskies, in fact, who drew first blood when shortstop Bernie Mayflower hit a two-out single to left in the first inning. After Mayflower advanced to second on a wild pitch, catcher Hunter Oke drove him home with a single to left, but was later caught stealing to end the inning.
The Falcons struck back in the third, scoring two runs on three hits and walk and were able to make that slim lead stand up for the next four innings.
Tuscarora threatened in the fifth when centerfielder Dalton Scanlon led off the inning with a single to left, and first baseman Pete Sotos walked with one out, but a double play killed the rally.

BW report - Junior Macy Jones tossed her third one-hitter of the season and Briar Woods scored in every inning but the first as the Falcons blanked visiting Tuscarora 10-0 in five innings Monday night in Ashburn.
Jones, who only gave up a one-out single in the top of the second, struck out 12 to help the Falcons improve to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in the Dulles District.
Briar Woods opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Senior Kasey Ball doubled to start the inning, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Jillian Olson and scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Lynn Brantley. Freshman Kacie Kondrotis then doubled and senior Alex Fierszt singled, and freshman Casey Forbes drilled a hard grounder that was misplayed and allowed Kondrotis to score.
The Falcons added another run in third when Olson ripped a two-out double to drive in Ball, who reached on a fielder’s choice earlier in the inning.
Briar Woods then blew the game open with four runs in the fourth before bringing the game to an early close with three runs in the fifth.
In the fourth, Kondrotis got the inning started by reaching on an error and later scored on a triple from Forbes. Freshman Jordan Counts then singled to drive in Forbes to make it 5-0, and senior Kristina Karagiorgis laced a two-out double to plate Counts. Ball added an RBI-single to score Karagiorgis to increase the lead to 7-0.
Freshman Jasmin Bradley reached on an error to open the fifth and beat the throw to second on a fielder’s choice by freshman Caroline Fowler. After Forbes walked to load the bases, Counts followed with a two-run single to drive in Bradley and Fowler. Forbes later raced home on a wild pitch to end the game due to the 10-run rule.
Forbes finished with a pair of hits and also reached on an error, walked and scored twice. Counts singled twice and drove in three runs, and Ball singled, doubled and scored twice.

Baseball
-Middleburg Academy 5, Trinity Christian 1
MA report - A cold Dragon day at Middleburg’s Fuller Field against the Trinity Christian Guardians on April 9 was well worth attending. The Middleburg Dragons kicked off their effort to help wounded veterans with a fundraiser to provide donations to The Fisher House. Donations will be collected at all home games through the end of the season.
The Dragons’ Connor Gorman started the game with a 3 up, 3 down performance, striking out two and forcing a ground ball to shortstop Kendall Ulmer, with an assist by first baseman Dylan Martinez. Gorman helped himself out with a 2 out single, followed by an RBI double by Dylan Martinez to give the Middleburg the early 1-0 lead.
Trinity followed their example in the 2nd inning, the first two hitters reached on a hit by pitch and a walk, followed by a 4-6 fielder’s choice that put runners at 1st and 3rd. The next batsman walked to load the bases, and runner at third scored on a wild pitch. The Dragons defense tightened up with a catch by second baseman Daniel Goldstein and a strikeout to close out the Guardian threat.
The game stayed tied until the bottom of the third inning. Shortstop Kendall Ulmer drew a one-out walk, stole second and advanced to third on an error by the Trinity second baseman, which also put Pitcher Connor Gorman on 1st. Gorman stole second and then Ulmer scored and Gorman moved to 3rd on a passed ball, to move the Dragons ahead again 2-1.
The 4th inning started well for the Guardians, with a single, a hit batsman, and a walk to load the bases with no outs. But, Gorman flipped the switch and struck out the next two batters and forced a pop fly out to shortstop Kendall Ulmer. Trinity shut down the Dragons in the bottom of the inning with a 1-2-3 inning keeping the Dragon lead to 1 run.
Middleburg’s defense stood tall in the 5th inning with fly outs to Ulmer at short and freshman Anthony Woods in right, followed by a ground ball 4-3 Goldstein-Martinez put-out.
Senior centerfielder Connor Smedile led off the 5th inning with a hard hit come-backer to the Trinity pitcher for the first out, but Ulmer followed with a base hit and two stolen bases. Gorman was hit by a pitch, stole second and Martinez drew a walk to load the bases. Third Baseman Evan Woods also drew a walk to score Ulmer and keep the bases full. A passed ball scored Gorman from third, before the Guardians could shut the Dragons down.
With the score now 4-1, the Dragons brought in Daniel “Wild Thing” Goldstein to pitch. He did his job well with a 3-up, 3-down inning – forcing a 6-3 ground out, a fly out to right, and a strikeout to cap it off.
The bottom of the 6th inning started with a hard hit single by Catcher Daniel Anderson. Freshman Brant Bell was brought in to run for Anderson. Left fielder Sean Walker laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Bell over to second, and Smedile hit another come-backer to the pitcher for the second out, but this moved Bell over to third. Ulmer ripped a single to left, driving in Bell for the Dragon’s 5th run. Ulmer racked up another stolen base, but Gorman flied out deep to center to end the inning.
Now down 5-1, Trinity needed to make something happen. An error to give Trinity a lead-off runner gave them hope. This was followed by a fly out to Ulmer at short for the inning’s first out. A double to left center moved the runners into scoring position, but a quick throw in by Smedile in center kept Trinity from scoring.
With runners now at 2nd and 3rd, Goldstein responded with a strikeout and then forced a ground ball in front of the plate, handled by Anderson, who teamed up with Martinez for the 2-3 put-out that ended the game.

-E.C. Glass 8, Dominion 5
Titan report - It may have been the 4:30 a.m. wake up call combined with a 2 1/2 hour bus ride to the University of Virginia campus, that caused the Dominion Titans to move a little slow in the first quarter of their 9 a.m. game Saturday morning against undefeated EC Glass. But the Titans came back strong, holding Glass scoreless from the 2nd quarter until late in the 4th period and nearly completed an upset victory.
Glass dropped in 3 close-in goals before the Titans got on the scoreboard with a zinger to the upper right corner by Sr Middie Kevin Fernandez. At the end of the first period Glass held a 6 - 1 lead, but from then the Titans held sway, as the defense stiffened and the offense slowly worked the team back into contention.
Goalie Andrew Fawkes showed his Dulles All-District skills with 13 saves on the day and 5 ground balls, while Sr Defensive Middie Paul Miniacci had his best game of the season with 5 ground balls and a couple of key long clearing runs.
Sophomore Middie Nick Kirschke led the Titan scoring with 2 goals, and the Titans welcomed the return of Junior Middie Evan Wright, just back from a knee repair job, who scored his first goal of the season. And Freshman Middie Andrew Ashley continued to impress Titan Coaches Lenotti and Smith with a goal off a rebound shot, late in the fourth to bring the Titans within one.
The Titans made a day of it in Charlottesville, with tailgating and attending the UVA-UNC game, where Titan Assistant Coach Dave Smith’s alma mater, UVA, won an exciting overtime victory over Coach Pete Lenotti’s ala mater UNC.
The Titans now stand 2-1 in Dulles District play and 2-4 overall with key games this week against Freedom, Woodgrove and completion of a game against Westfield that was stopped in the middle of the second period due to rain three weeks ago.

-Potomac Falls 4, Dominion 2
PF report - Potomac Falls pitcher Ryan Miller and Dominion’s Ryan Doyle hooked up in a classic pitching duel at Dominion HS last night before the Panthers pulled out a comeback victory in the 7th inning.
Both pitchers were pitching gems and cruising along in a 0-0 ballgame until the 5th inning when Dominion pushed across 2 runs. TJ Davis got Dominion started in the 5th with a single to left field. Davis advanced to second on a fielder’s choice. After a hit batter and an intentional walk to load the bases, the Panthers brought in Ryan Mahoney to pitch. Ryan Doyle greeted Mahoney with a perfectly executed suicide squeeze bunt to plate Davis. The play was so perfect that Doyle ended up with a hit on the play. The Titans pushed another run across the plate on a groundout to take a 2-0 lead.
Doyle held the Panthers in check through the 6th and headed into the 7th inning with the 2 run lead. The Panthers finally got to the righty with Matt Hoover leading off with a double to center field. Tyler Caldwell followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Ben Sweger then hit a sacrifice fly to right to plate Hoover and advance Caldwell. Jackson Rogers followed with an RBI single to center to score Caldwell and tie the game. Doyle then walked Ryan Mahoney and both runners scored when Ryan Miller doubled to right field to give the Panthers a 4-2 lead. Ryan Mahoney then shutdown the Titans in the last inning to secure the victory for Potomac Falls.
The Panthers return to the diamond Friday night for a game against Woodgrove HS at Panther Park. Prior to the game a special dedication will be made to Don Malan who passed away in the fall. The ceremony will start at 5:45 with the game starting at 6:00.

MA report - Middleburg’s 12 hits, including the second homer of the year for freshman Anthony Woods in the bottom of the seventh inning, was not enough to match Mason’s offensive attack (15 hits). Mason was led by juniors Jon Freeman and Max Kaplow with 3 hits apiece. Connor Gorman of Middleburg finished 3 for 4 with 2 RBI.

Robin Heironimus absorbed the loss giving up 7 hits in 5 innings while striking out 5. The lone hit for the Patriots was a single by Sam Thomas, leading off the home first. She was the only base runner for the Patriots to reach third all night and was stranded as Macy retired the next two Patriots on a strike out and pop out.
Park View hosts Tuscarora on Tuesday evening as they finish up the first half of the season.
-Potomac Falls 5, Dominion 3
PF report - Potomac Falls (7-2, 5-1 Dulles District) won its third consecutive game this week with a district victory over Dominion 5-3. Three other Panther hitters had multiple hits including senior Kaitlyn McClung (2-2, rbi), sophomore Anna Zembar (2-3, rbi), and junior Carlyn Hanzel (2-4, rbi) plus senior Kayla Guttridge had a single and run scored.
The Panthers scored two runs in the top of the first on a two-base throwing error after loading the bases with two outs - senior Erin Frasca walked, Fulcher singled up the middle, and Zembar walked before Hanzel hit the ball to short who overthrew first base scoring Frasca and Fulcher.
After loading the bases and not scoring in the first inning, the Titans tied the score 2-2 in the bottom of the second with a single by Jordan Smith, a triple by Paige Barger, and a passed ball. The Panthers continued to score runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to jump out 5-2.

LV report - On a pleasant afternoon, Loudoun Valley traveled to Manassas to play Cedar Run District opponent Osbourn High School. Coming off a dominating performance at Heritage, the Vikings looked to keep the momentum going against an upstart Eagles team.
Valley’s offense did just that as they would score 20 goals for the game for the fourth time this year. The Vikings defense, led by Vic Molchan, put in another strong effort as they allowed the Eagles offense only a few shots on goal for the entire game. Goalkeepers Kelsey Luck and Maggie Beglau would allow only three goals for the entire game.
The win improves Valley’s overall record to 7-1, 2-1 in the Cedar Run District. On April 14, the Vikings play host to Stonewall Jackson High School at 7 p.m.

SB report - The Stone Bridge Bulldogs traveled to Langley tonight to make up their rain delayed game from Tuesday. The crucial early season Liberty District matchup did not disappoint.
The Bulldogs threw their senior starter Stephen Putnick, and the Saxons countered with left handed senior Robert Hood. Both pitchers battled head to head early on.
Stone Bridge jumped to a 2-0 lead in the third inning when junior Brady Orrison reached base on a fielder’s choice. Spenser Rositano moved him to second base on a ground out, and Orrison moved to third on a well placed bunt single down the third base line by Ty Lighton. Orision scored on a JJ White single and Lighton scored on a Saxon error.
Langley scored their only run in the fourth after a hit batsman moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and a double by infielder Matt Moser.
With the score 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Putnick worked out of a tight jam. With runners on second and third, and no outs, Putnick blew a fastball by the Langley batter attempting a suicide squeeze, and catcher JJ White easily applied the tag on the advancing runner. Putnick countered with a strikeout and ended the inning on a comebacker fielding play, with a soft toss to first baseman Connor Donovan for the final out of the inning.
The Bulldogs got some breathing room in the sixth inning with a two out run. With Josh Kuzbel on second base after a double, senior transfer Ryan Johnston hit an infield single to the right of the pitching mound, where the Saxon third baseman appeared to lose the ball in the lights. The ball dropped behind his head with out being touched, and at the prompting of third base coach Sam Plank, Kuzbel never let up, rounded third, and easily scored.
Putnick pitched well on the evening for his second win of the season, with his fastball reaching 89 mph on the night and a nice mix of curveballs and change ups. He went five innings, giving up one run, four hits, with six strikeouts for the night.
Coach Plank relieved the senior after his 94 pitch outing, bringing in hard throwing junior Tyler Mocabee to close out the game. Mocabee did the job. He pitched two innings, with two strikeouts and an athletic 1-6-3 double play to close out the sixth.
Langley pitcher Hood had the complete game in the loss for the Saxons, with seven innings pitched, seven strikeouts, giving up six hits. Offensively for the Bulldogs’ Johnston had two hits, and Rositano, Lighton and Kuzbel each had hits. Stone Bridge moves to 4-1, tied with McLean atop the Liberty district, and takes on Marshall at home Friday night.
-Potomac Falls 12, Loudoun County 2 (6 inn.)
PF report - The Panthers fell behind to the Raiders in the first inning by 2 runs before scoring 12 unanswered runs in 6 innings to beat Loudoun County 12–2. Jackson Rogers recorded his third win of the season and Ben Sweger collected his first home run of the year.
Loudoun County started off the 1st inning when Stephen Veschi hit a dribbler down the third base line that stopped in fair territory for a single. Tyler Saleck then hit a double to right to score Veschi and Matt Slack’s single to center scored Saleck to put the Raiders up by two.
The Panthers responded right away when lead-off hitter Ben Sweger hit the second pitch he saw to right that cleared the 385 sign for his first homerun of the year. In the second, the Panthers tallied 4 runs when Colin Deely led off with a double to right. Michael Lascomb and Tyler Rice followed with walks to load the bases. Taylor Cokely then struck out Matt Hoover before Steven Fisher hit a 2 RBI double to left. Sweger followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score Rice and Fisher scored on a wild pitch to give the Panthers a 5-1 lead.
Potomac Falls scored one in the 4th on a double to center by Lascomb who was then knocked in by Fisher’s double to left for his third RBI of the game. In the 5th, Ryan Mahoney led off with a walk, stole second and scored on Deely’s second double of the game. Deely then scored on Lascomb’s single to left to make the score 8-2.
The Panthers finished it out in the 6th on doubles by Sweger and Rogers and singles by Mahoney and Lascomb. Meanwhile, Rogers struck out 8 batters and did not issue any walks in posting his third victory of the season. He only gave up two hits after giving up three in the first inning.
Michael Lascomb was 3-3 with 2 RBI’s, Ben Sweger was 2-3 with a Homerun and 3 RBI’s, Colin Deely was 2-3 with 2 RBI’s and Steven Fisher was 2-3 with 3 RBI’s. The Panthers play at Dominion High School on Thursday at 6:00 and follow with Woodgrove on Friday at Panther Park.
The Panthers will honor the memory of Don Malan on Friday at Panther Park prior to the game with a tribute and dedication. Don was the father of David, Lauren and Rob Malan who were all outstanding athletes at Potomac Falls with David and Rob playing for the Panthers baseball team. The 2011 squad has dedicated their season to the memory of Don and asks everyone to join them on Friday at 5:45. If it rains, the dedication will be held in the gym, so please plan on attending.

The Panthers scored again in the third inning after Fulcher got on by a fielder’s choice, advanced on a single by Kiefer and scored on a double by Zembar. LC report - Junior Allison Bills took a ball from Shauna Kain through Potomac Falls defender traffic to score the contests only goal in a match that was marked by missed opportunities on both sides of the field.
The Lady Raiders rattled off 10 shots in the first half of the game. In the 4th minute of the game Alana Mackey took a direct kick from the left side. The ball was well placed and threatening, but went just over the Potomac Falls Keeper’s hands and the top of the goal.
Later in the period Mackey again launched a missile at the goal from the left and missed just wide right of the goal. One minute later, in the 38th minute, Allison Bills received a fine centering pass from Taylor Boucher and missed wide right again. Senior Brittany Batts handled the ball 8 times in the half where she and the Raider defenders maintained a shutout. The half ended with no score.
The second half started with flat play from the Raiders and an early scare from Potomac Falls. Panthers Junior Taylor Zurick broke the raider defense in the 41st minute and challenged Keeper Kelsey Slack with a break away shot. Slack handled the challenge well by rushing the play and smothering the ball. In the 46th minute, Potomac Falls again pressured Slack who deflected a Panther shot and left the ball on the touch line. The Raider defenders came to the rescue and worked the ball out of the zone.
In the 48th minute Junior Emma Sieber centered the ball to Shauna Kain who was able to pass the ball to Allison Bills then playing in a pack of Panthers. Bills was able to get a shot off and score. In the 52nd minute of play the Panthers again challenged with a series of runs at the Raider defense, who held them to no goals for the night.
Jessalynne Ku played impressively throughout the match, moving the ball forward with runs and winning loose balls consistently. Her play dovetailed well with the Raider’s midfielders to control the center of the field during most of the game.
The Lady Raiders move on to play Dominion High School this Friday April 8th @ Dominion.

3 game skid, keep your head up Junior.
Congrats Mark Bauer Jr.
In the Dominion vs. Potomac Falls baseball game, the score was tied in the 7th inning on a suicide squeeze, not a single to center. Rogers ended up with a single as Doyle did.
Does Loudoun County have a website for all of the sports cancellations and makeup dates?
In response to Mr. Billy Beane, I could not agree more. He possess the managerial skills of a young Ozzie Guillen.
In my honest opinion Mark Bauer Jr. is a great baseball mind. His use of sabermetics, positive reinforcement, and use of runs as a measurement tool he has been successful in his first year.
Bauer’s contention is that with regard to an offensive player, the first key question is how many runs have resulted from what he has done with the bat and on the basepaths. Willie McCovey hit .270 in his career, with 353 doubles, 46 triples, 521 home runs and 1,345 walks—but his job was not to hit doubles, nor to hit singles, nor to hit triples, nor to draw walks or even hit home runs, but rather to put runs on the scoreboard. How many runs resulted from all of these things?
Runs created attempts to answer this bedrock question. The conceptual framework of the “runs created” stat is:
where
A = On-base factor
B = Advancement factor
C = Opportunity factor
