The third week of the varsity football season features 12 of Loudoun’s 13 public high schools in action. The AA Dulles District season kicks off this week with four games, highlighted by longtime rivals Loudoun County and Loudoun Valley squaring off in Purcellville.

Loudoun County (1-0) at Loudoun Valley (1-1)

    -When: Friday, 7 p.m.
-Points Scored: LV 65; LC 53
-Points Allowed: LC 21; LV 35
-Last week: Valley 52, James Wood 19; County did not play
-Last meeting: County 32, Valley 19
-Quick hit: Loudoun’s oldest rivalry renews this week as the Raiders travel to Purcellville to face the Vikings. Both teams are capable of lighting up the scoreboard as each side has scored 50-plus points in a game this season.

Chantilly (1-0) at Stone Bridge (1-0)

    -When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
-Points Scored: CHS 48; SB 31
-Points Allowed: CHS 7; SB 14
-Last week: Stone Bridge 31, Robinson 14; Chantilly 48, Woodson 7
    -Last meeting: Chantilly, 22-14
-Quick hit: Stone Bridge relied on defense and special teams in its win versus Robinson. The Bulldogs will need an improved effort from their offense to defeat their second AAA Concorde District opponent in as many weeks.

Briar Woods (2-0) at Park View (0-2)

    -When: Friday, 7 p.m.
-Points Scored: BW 62; PV 0
-Points Allowed: BW 29; PV 63
-Last week: Briar Woods 20, Broad Run 15; Liberty 28, Park View 0
    -Last meeting: Briar Woods, 49-21
-Quick hit: Briar Woods begins its quest for a third straight AA Dulles District title. Park View was one of only two teams to score 20-plus points against Briar Woods last year but have not shown the same offensive tenacity this season after graduating their top skill players.

Broad Run (1-1) at Woodbridge (1-0)

    -When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
-Points Scored: BR 50; WHS 27
-Points Allowed: WHS 7; BR 20
-Last week: Woodbridge 27, Franklin County 7
    -Last meeting: Broad Run, 32-0
-Quick hit: Broad Run will look to get back on track after allowing a 15-0 slip away in a 20-15 loss to Ashburn rival Briar Woods. The Spartans have been excellent at bouncing back from losses in recent seasons, having not dropped consecutive games since 2006.

    Dominion (0-1) at Heritage (1-1)

    -When: Friday, 7 p.m.
-Points Scored: HHS 52; DHS 10
-Points Allowed: DHS 17; HHS 46
-Last week: Heritage 26, Hedgesville 16; Dominion did not play
-Last meeting: Heritage 42, Dominion 14
-Quick hit: Heritage, who reached the playoffs for the first time in 2011, bounced back against Hedgesville after a narrow home loss to start 2012. Dominion, seeking its first win since late in the 2010 season, was competitive in its season-opening loss to Handley.

Potomac Falls (0-2) at Woodgrove (2-0)

    -When: Friday, 7 p.m.
-Points Scored: WHS 117; PF 20
-Points Allowed: WHS 7; PF 65
-Last week: Woodgrove 56, Brentsville 0; Kettle Run 42, Potomac Falls 13
    -Last meeting: Potomac Falls, 28-13
-Quick hit: Woodgrove also started 2-0 in 2011 before a loss to Potomac Falls began a stretch of six defeats in seven games. That is unlikely to repeat this season as the Wolverines are clicking on all cylinders under first-year coach Mike Skinner. Potomac Falls is in the midst of a brutal schedule to open the 2012 campaign.

Brentsville District (0-2) at Tuscarora (1-0)

    -When: Friday, 7 p.m.
-Points Scored: THS 41; BD 6
-Points Allowed: THS 21; BD 106
-Last week: Woodgrove 56, Brentsville 0; Tuscarora did not play
    -Last meeting: Tuscarora, 52-8
-Quick hit: Brentsville has allowed 50 or more points in each of its first two games. Tuscarora figures to have little problem putting points on the board as it prepares for an upcoming slate of eight straight AA Dulles District games.

    John Champe (0-2) at Gar-Field (0-2)

    -When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
-Points Scored: JC 14; GF 7
-Points Allowed: JC 72; GF 74
    -Last week: Freedom 30, John Champe 14; Stonewall Jackson 32, Gar-Field 7
-Quick hit: John Champe, a first-year school in Aldie, scored its first points as a varsity program last week and will next head to Woodbridge in search of its first-ever win. Both teams lost their first two games by similar margins.
