Wong wins region singles title, teams with Cragg for doubles crown

Freedom High School sophomore Wesley Wong is the 2011 Region II boys tennis single champion. Wong also teamed with sophomore Alex Cragg to win the region doubles title. Woodgrove freshman Sunnie Lampl reached the girls singles final where she dropped a three-set heartbreaker.

Wong will play a Group AA State semifinal singles match June 9 at Radford University. Wong and Cragg will next take the court June 10 in the state doubles semifinals at Virginia Tech.

Boys

Western Albemarle def. Sherando

-Singles final
Wesley Wong (Freedom) def. Kaleb Nguyen (Sherando) 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-4

-Doubles final
Freedom (Alex Cragg/Wesley Wong) def. Sherando 6-4, 1-6, 6-4


Girls

-Team final
Fauquier def. Western Albemarle 5-4

-Singles final
Headley Wilson (Handley) def. Sunnie Lampl (Woodgrove) 3-6, 6-2, 7-6

-Doubles final
Monticello (Lizzy Gaffney and Kassie Tulenko) def. James Wood 6-3, 6-4
