Jamaican gymnasts train locally with Olympic focus

Sometimes the world is a small place. And for five Jamaican gymnasts, that’s given them a chance at something that might have been previously unattainable. For Jamin Levy, 20, Daniel Williams, 19, Kaela Kay Yen, 12, Dantella Richards, 11, and Giselle Thomas, 11, the opportunity of a lifetime has knocked at the doors of G-Force Gymnastics in Ashburn.

Freedom, Wrighte on top at VHSL state gymnastics meet

Freedom High School enjoyed a meet to remember Feb. 19-20 at the Virginia High School League state gymnastics championships in Virginia Beach. The Eagles soared to the Group 5A team championship and sophomore Sydney Wrighte won the all-around title at the Individual Open Championships.

Regional gymnastics: Freedom Eagles soar back into states

If the gymnasium scoreboard at Park View High School displayed real-time point totals, those in attendance at the 5A North regional gymnastics championships Feb. 10 would have known they were watching a nail-biting buzzer-beater. With strong performances on their floor routines in the final rotation of the meet, the Freedom Eagles triumphed over runner-up Stafford by less than one-half of one point.

Gymnastics: Conference meet results

Freedom, Riverside and Tuscarora placed first in the team standings at their respective conference gymnastics meets. Freedom's Sydney Wrighte (38.9), Potomac Falls' Erika Hurrell (37.5) and Riverside's Maddy Howell (37.05) each won all-around titles.

Loudoun’s Varsity Sports Rewind: Feb. 1-3 events

Freedom High School swept Liberty in varsity boys' and girls' basketball games Wednesday night. Dominion girls, John Champe boys, Potomac Falls boys, Rock Ridge girls and Tuscarora girls also prevailed on the hardwood.

Wrighte, Eagles triumph at annual Park View meet

Thirteen teams of high school gymnasts cartwheeled, flipped and vaulted their ways through the 36th annual Park View Glory Days Invitational Jan. 9 in Sterling. Sydney Wrighte earned the elite Red Division's top spot in all four events, helping her Freedom Eagles claim that division's team trophy.
