Loudoun’s Varsity Scoreboard: VHSL State Championships

Riverside High School won the girls' team championship at the Virginia High School League Group 3A State Swimming Championships on Saturday in Richmond. Several Loudoun student-athletes won individual swimming, wrestling and gymnastics championships at the state level.

Freedom’s Wrighte excels at state qualifier gymnastics meet

Freedom High School junior Sydney Wrighte placed first in all four individual events at the 5A North Region State Qualifier Gymnastics Meet to help the Eagles qualify as a team for the VHSL State Gymnastics Meet. Wrighte topped the all-around standings with an overall score of 39.25 at the qualifier meet, contested Feb. 8 at Park View High School in Sterling.

Tuscarora repeats as Conference 14 gymnastics champions

Flips, tumbles and acrobatics were on display Jan. 31 inside Stone Bridge High School's gymnasium. While each of the five teams competing in the Conference 14 gymnastics meet gave their all, it was Tuscarora winning the team title for the second year in a row. The Huskies edged out runner-up Potomac Falls by seven points.

Woodgrove lands surprise finish at conference gymnastics meet

It isn't often that the word "upset" can be applied to a gymnastics meet, but that word tells the story of the Conference 21-West gymnastics championship meet Jan. 30 at Freedom High School in South Riding. The Woodgrove Wolverines edged their hosts, the defending state champion and two-time regional champ Eagles, by less than a single point - 0.825, to be exact - to claim this year's team title for the six-school conference.

Loudoun’s Varsity Sports Rewind: Jan. 23-26 events

Heritage outlasted Loudoun Valley 63-60 in varsity boys' basketball Thursday night to hand the Vikings their first loss of the season. The Pride also prevailed against the Vikings in varsity girls' basketball. In more basketball action, Camryn Fagan, Sophia Coates and Jordan Wick each scored in double figures to lead Woodgrove's girls past Dominion.

Loudoun’s Varsity Sports Rewind: Jan. 17-21 events

Riverside and Rock Ridge high schools prevailed in varsity swim meets Saturday, while Woodgrove High School's gymnastics team placed fourth at the Aloha Invitational. Look inside for scores and submitted stats from varsity basketball, gymnastics and swimming.

Loudoun’s Varsity Sports Rewind: Jan. 6-12 events

The Loudoun County Raiders defeated the Riverside Rams 68-37 in varsity girls' basketball Thursday night. The Raiders have won 13 straight games and are currently 14-1 overall. Look inside for scores and submitted recaps from varsity basketball, gymnastics, swimming and wrestling.

Patriots, Wolverines rise to top at Glory Days Gymnastics Invitational

For more than a decade, the Park View Glory Days Gymnastics Invitational has served as a mid-season barometer for high school gymnasts around Loudoun and throughout Virginia, testing their skills against the sort of competition they'll see in the postseason, a few weeks hence. For the first time in almost a decade, the host Patriots laid claim to a first-place trophy - placing atop the Blue division.

Gymnastics: Freedom edges Woodgrove for top spot

The Freedom Eagles totaled 133.975 points to place first in a five-team gymnastics meet Dec. 21 in South Riding. Woodgrove finished less than two points behind in second place, while all-around champion Leah Trepal led Heritage to a third-place finish.
