Amazon is a truly awful idea. With our tight labor market—unemployment is a negligible 3.2 percent—with sky high taxes, congested roads, public concerns about growth and with almost-unaffordable housing costs, why on Earth would we want Amazon’s second headquarters and its 50,000 employees and their families?

Supervisors need to ignore Amazon’s dazzling prestige, look deeper, and see how it would ruin the county. Today’s $100 million budget shortfall would be chump change compared to the overall fiscal woes Amazon would trigger. Our pleasant lives would become nightmares.

I would prefer Amazon over all the strip malls, malls, town centers, restaurants. I’d prefer a company that won’t close it’s doors within a year or two after opening and pay good wages. Probably why so many apartments, condos, townhomes built vs single family homes…..
