Letters to the Editor

In the June 30 edition, you reported that, “Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R) joined the debate Thursday over comments made on Twitter by President Donald Trump about MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski. Commenting on the situation, Comstock typed, “Yes the tweets went too far. Please stop.”

Perhaps Representative Comstock could use her position as Member of Congress to formally comment on the behavior of President Trump.  She is not shy about making comments on the Congressional Record.  Since the beginning of this term she’s made 89 remarks on the Congressional Record, more than any other member from Virginia.

However, unlike all other representatives from Virginia, over 90 percent (84 out of 89) of Comstock’s remarks are “Extensions of Remarks” which are “speeches, tributes and other extraneous words.”In other words she has used her time in Congress this year to make statements about Redskins draft picks (yes, seriously), wineries and business openings as compared to the substantive statements made by her Republican and Democratic colleagues in the Virginia Delegation.  It’s time for Representative Comstock to represent her district which overwhelmingly rejected Trump in the 2016 election, and go on the Congressional Record with her concerns regarding his treatment of women and the media.
