Third taxi robbery suspect charged
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office investigation into the robbery of a taxi cab driver in Sterling has led to a third suspect in the case.Spokesman Kraig Troxell said Sheriff's investigators arrested Sukhwinder Sing Mahal, 19, of Ashburn, on July 31 in connection with the July 25 robbery.
Also taken into custody July 31 was Paul Subhro Baroi, 21, of Sterling, who was charged with robbery and malicious wounding.
Baroi and Mahal were being held at the Loudoun Adult Detention Center without bond.
Another man, Jose Juan Marquez, 18, of Ashburn, remains at large.
Police obtained warrants for Marquez and Baroi after the robbery of the taxi cab driver around 10:30 p.m. July 25 in Sterling.
On July 27, the Sheriff's Office released surveillance video that led to the identity of the suspects, police said. The video was captured at the Sterling Getty Mart on East Holly Avenue just moments before the robbery took place.
The robbery occurred after a driver for Dulles Coach Inc. was dispatched to the gas station, Troxell said.
The driver picked up two passengers, who asked to be taken to Maryland. As the driver headed south on Sterling Boulevard, one passenger produced a knife and demanded money.
The driver was told to stop near the intersection of Shepard and Glenn drives. He was cut when he tried to get out of the cab.
The suspects took cash and other items from the driver, then fled on foot. The driver was treated at a local hospital, police said.
