Residents support Dulles rail project
Ninety-three percent of Northern Virginia residents support rail extension to Washington Dulles International Airport.
The Dulles Corridor Rail Association, an advocacy group for the rail extension, recently contracted for a survey, which found that 87 percent of residents in the Greater Washington area favor the project.
iQ Research and Consulting conducted the survey via a random sampling of about 400 Northern Virginia residents and 500 people from the D.C. metro area.
About 83 percent of Northern Virginia respondents said they have a favorable impression of Metrorail in general and 69 percent said they would find the system more useful if it were expanded. A majority also said they view the project as "extremely important" for the future of the region.
The survey also asked about other potential Metrorail extensions, and the results indicated some support for extending rail around the beltway, up the I-270 corridor, out I-66 to Centreville, and to Potomac Mills mall in Prince William County.
