Homeless center, historic district on tap for board
The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors will hold its first business meeting in more than a month Nov. 20 and its first since four of its Republican members lost re-election bids on Nov. 6.Among the major items on tap for Tuesday's meeting in Leesburg is a discussion on the county funding a drop-in center for the homeless.
The Good Shepherd Alliance currently runs such a facility on Sycolin Road in Leesburg. It had wanted to close this center and open another in Ashburn. However, citizen outcry forced the nonprofit to remove the center from its Ashburn plans.
Supervisor Lori Waters (R-Broad Run) wants the county to allocate money to keep a drop-in center in operation, possibly at Good Shepherd's Sycolin Road site.
Also in the east, the board may vote to create the Waxpool Task Force, which will address transportation issues concerning this heavily traveled Ashburn road.
In western Loudoun, the board will take up a request from several homeowners to have their properties removed from the Goose Creek Historic and Cultural District.
Several homeowners in this Purcellville-area historic district argue that the previous owners of their homes did not know they were joining the district when they signed a petition in the mid-1970s.
The meeting will take place in the county's government center, 1 Harrison Street, Leesburg, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
