Blasting on Sycolin Road starts Friday
Blasting to remove rock on Sycolin Road between Battlefield Parkway and Tolbert Lane in Leesburg begins Oct. 5 and will continue through the following week.
No blasting will take place on the weekends, but residents and commuters using the roads can expect delays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the week.
Traffic will be stopped on Sycolin Road during each blast for five to 10 minutes. About three to four blasts are scheduled for each day.
Message boards will be installed Oct. 3 to notify residents and travelers of the impending blasts.
The Town of Leesburg warns those in close proximity to the blasting site may feel some “ground vibrations and hear some muffled noise.”
Air horns will sound to signal a blast -- one long horn five minutes prior to detonation; three short horns immediately prior to detonation; and one long horn sounding the “all clear.”
