Holtz announces run at Leesburg Town Council
Frank Holtz, a 12-year resident of Leesburg and a supervisor with the U.S. Capitol Police, announced Oct. 22 his campaign for Leesburg Town Council in the May 2008 elections.
In a press release, Holtz said he's announcing his campaign earlier than usual because “Leesburg deserves stronger leadership than what we’re getting from the current Town Council.”
Holtz cited the recent decision by Pennsylvania-based Wolf Furniture to abandon its efforts to locate a store on Fort Evans Road in Leesburg due to delays and obstacles created by town government as “the catalyst that drove me to make this decision earlier than normal.”
“I want to join those on the Town Council who want to take charge and make this town friendlier to business, so we can attract more jobs and business tax revenue and become less dependent on increasing homeowners’ property taxes,” he said.
Holtz said Leesburg taxes are still too high, and excessive regulation and heavy-handed government are stifling the town’s ability to bring in new restaurants and high-wage jobs for residents. Holtz said he would work to cut unnecessary spending, and streamline zoning and site-plan review requirements so that Leesburg can be “open for business.”
In addition, he faulted the town council and Mayor Kristen C. Umstattd for failing to show leadership on illegal immigration and ignoring its contribution to blight, overcrowding, crime, identity theft and drivers operating without licenses and insurance.
