Briefs: Tax bills, Kaine, input, supervisors
Tax billsYour tax bills from the county will look a little different this year.
Last week, the Board of Supervisors voted to eliminate the fire and rescue services line item that appeared on real estate tax bills in 2007. This was a one-year experiment that failed.
The fire and rescue tax rate was to show residents what portion of the overall tax rate was dedicated to funding fire and rescue operations manned by paid personnel. Many residents thought this money also went toward the county’s extensive network of volunteer fire and rescue companies. Some volunteers had complained to board members that this hurt donations.
This year, bills will contain only one number: the tax rate of $1.14. Bills, though, will contain a graph showing how the county will spend the money it collects.
Kaine meeting
For those who still have questions about the state budget and the latest legislative session for Gov. Tim Kaine (D), he will be in Falls Church on April 12 to conduct another local town hall meeting. Kaine held a similar meeting in Ashburn March 31.
All are invited to attend and Kaine will take questions from residents.
The meeting will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Luther Jackson Middle School, 3020 Gallows Road, Falls Church.
Community input
The Board of Supervisors is seeking input from residents of Loudoun's Sterling and Potomac communities on ways to improve the quality of life within their neighborhoods.
Several open houses and input sessions have been scheduled:
? April 24, River Bend Middle School, 46240 Algonkian Parkway, Sterling. Open house: 5-6 p.m.; input session: 6-9 p.m.
? May 3, Park View High School, 400 W. Laurel Ave., Sterling. Open house: noon-1 p.m.; input session: 1-4 p.m.
? May 10, Seneca Ridge Middle School, 98 Seneca Ridge Drive, Sterling. Open house: 8-9 a.m.; input session: 9 a.m.-noon
? May 14, Park View High School. Open house: 5-6 p.m.; input session: 6-9 p.m.
Though not limited to these, topics may include transportation, public safety, revitalization and the environment.

Board meeting
The Board of Supervisors’ next business meeting is April 15. The public can address supervisors on April 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the board room of the Loudoun County Government Center, 1 Harrison St., S.E., Leesburg.
